What undercover cars do the traffic police use in your area?

I'd have thought in Cheshire they'd be driving Q5's and Range Rover Sports lol

That's just what they tend to pull over Lee :)

Last time I saw the X5, They were behind a chap who proceeded to boot it a bit early, coming out of a 30 into a 60. Guy was in an R32; sounded good mind you!

i10's round Peterborough, which strangely all seem to have towbars. I've come to the conclusion that it's for a cycle carrier, so they can stick a racing bike on in case they need to chase something.

  • If it's a BMW in the inside lane, then it's an un-marked police car for sure!!   The Proceeds of Crime act has allowed the police to keep cars confiscated from criminals and I believe some of those

I'm pretty sure I heared somewhere (think it may of been police interceptors) that the police was/still are seizing drug dealers cars and using them instead of crushing them.

A Volvo V40 in silver, A Volvo S80 in black and a Vauxhall Insignia or two. All have the same first letter on the plate so fairly easy to spot tbh, well, not so easy that my brother managed to though.

look forward to My Brother's an Idiot Part 3 (or are we up to 4 yet? ) :D

Surrey police have a wide range of vehicles.

your usual standard dead giveaway ones that the Met tends to use but on top of that:

Older mazda (323?) - not a recent plate?

old PCO licensed vehicle.. can't recall which.

Quite possibly a Mazda 3 MPS? Can't say I've spotted them being used elsewhere mind you.

But as said, quite a few forces seem to use cars seized under 'proceeds of crime' so some oddities will probably crop up!

Mainly 5 series BMW's, an Audi A4 and i have heard theres an Octavia but i havent seen it.

All with blacked out windows and FJ at the start of the numberplate!

green mazda 6, not 323 (I think) that looks a little beat up.

It's getting quite tricky to tell an unmarked car these days, especially when they look like taxis!

Also spotted a land rover defender between leeds and birmingham one night. Black but had the little speed camera/sensor things on the top corner.

Speaking of those - I saw a car today with the sensors on BOTH sides rather than on just 1.

Leicestershire has the usual BMW 5 Series and X3/X5 combos - all marked up.

In terms of unmarked - they used to have a black Octavia vRS but not seen it recently. Also seen a Golf R32!

West Mids have an unmarked Audi saloon, A4 i think, dark coloured.

Saw a SAAB estate unmarked car many years ago on the M40?

Oh, and followed new Skoda Superb Police Dog Car:

In Notts I've seen an unmarked Discovery(they may even be 2), X5, 5 series estate and possibly a 3 series.

Does make me laugh when you see them swanning around in their liveried X1s, what a pointless car!

Police in Glasgow have a fleet of unmarked Astras - basic models with wheel trims - I spotted one this evening by the small lights in the front grille. Be particularly careful on Carmunnock Road as they keep their vehicles up in Chateau Lait and use Carmunnock Road to go to and fro.

That speed sensor thingy- think you'll find it an ANPR detector. Midlands forces ( Central/West Mids) tend to use B* plated cars,  BUT there are some variations around ,possibly special units and seized cars . i just hope they clean out ex dealers estates - might not be good for the dogs noses, although it might be a new way to keep the force happy

I spotted a 5 ( or similar ) sized BMW estate dog wagon.

That's sneaky - next they'll be using Fabia 1.9 SDI. ( Or Smart cars).

I did once buy an octavia 4x4 turbo that was ex Strathclyde Police - SF03HNG, it was Caledonian blue. No holes drilled in the usual places and was a very clean car. They git rid of it at 40k. Speaking to the police workshop manager one day when requesting the vehicle history, he said the officers thought it was a fantastic car.

and cue the jokes about being able to out run it when the oil runs out......

Steven2016,

keep a look out for the Silver V60 Polestar's & Golf R Estates in various colours, you might see one coming up behind you fast or not even see that until they are passing without blues and 2's.

Especially around the Perth Area & North.

& do not get into a race situation with a A4 or S3 without being sure.

Across the A93 & along Deeside & across to Grantown on Spey you will see Fast Audi's and others of the Royal Protection or even Royals driving, they sometimes give you a wee flash of the Blues once past to let you know you were just Tangoed.

I'm west coast mate, i'd imagine same rules apply though. Also I couldn't possibly race an Audi, I've only got a 1.4

Main ones on the M74/ A70 roads covering border to Glasgow and out towards Ayrshire coast are BMW's, usual SF plate giveaway ie. I was tugged by SF14 NPH but have also seen SF14 NFH and SF13's, silver mainly but the odd darker one. To be fair the unmarked ones are quick enough but they also have a very well marked Audi RS6 Avant, again an SF plate that is pretty damn quick when you see it in pursuit, as I have when ambling along the 74 in my bus between Crawford and Douglas.

Keep an eye out for Golf GTD estate, 15 plate white one as well, and a couple of Audi A3/ S3.

Do the registrations of all Police cars around Derbys and Notts still start FJ, or have they realised how obvious this makes them?

I see all of them being in Tameside, audi s3s, bmws, skodas, the lot

My Octavia vrs is ex undercover police
