Headlamp 'Transplant' Help

Featured Replies

Hello All :)

Assuming I could get hold of a pair of facelift headlamps/headlights, I was wondering if someone could/would help me to fit them into my car please?

If its a case of 'shoe horning' them, then my idea was to cut the headlamp plastic as necessary and possible glue/fashion any cuts made, to reseal the lamps/lights. Of course access to the original headlamps/headlights will be available for plastics donation should that be required.

I can't really see/envisage my request being impossible beyond reasonable feasibility.

Of course, it goes without saying, remuneration will be provided

You can't fit facelift lights if yours is pre-facelift.

Surely it's not that impossible is it? Surely between my non-facelift headlamps and a bit of "fettling" with/to the facelift headlamps, they could be "shoehorned in"? hmm...?

Nothing is that impossible.

The variable factors are usually:-

1. How deep your pockets are.

2. Personal skill in chosen field of fettling.

3. End result of number 2

I think to facelift a prefacelift car you need to change..

front slam pannel, headlights, bonnet and bumper. So those are the parts that will need fettling.

Can i ask what the benefit of Face Lift headlights are over Pre Facelift.

& is it the first headlights type fitted to some FL Mk2 Fabia, or later ones, or Dark colour ones that are some how more desirable?

From what I've read in the past it's an absolute ballache with the wiring change. If there wasn't an issue with having to change other parts I'd have done this myself by now. The wiring would be quite simple for myself but I'm not willing to pay for the other parts needed. an alternative would be to get the fly film which goes over the headlight, kinda like a tint. However, don't quote me on that as I may be completely wrong.

He is asking about a pre Face Lift Mk2 Fabia and putting in post Face Lift lights.

Your car is Post Face Lift, ie 2010 on.   So changing to the Tint lights is a ball ache but not like Pre FL to after Face Lift.

Hmm, fair enough. I considered it myself until I read other threads here. May be a weekend job one time when I get a second car haha.

Are the physical dimensions of the pre-facelift lights hugely/insurmountably greater than the post-facelift lights?

If I had the DIY skills, I would have cut and trimmed the plastic casing of the post-FL headlamp to fit the housing/space of my pre-FL car; and then either plastic welded/silicone sealed any open gaps on the headlamp. I am 99% sure that looking straight on at the car, from the front everything would have looked neat and tidy.

Have you not checked out a newer car in the past 4 months, made some measurements and decided if it can be done or not?

Yes they are different in a few important places like the bonnet and bumper

And wings

And wings

Are you sure?

I've facelifted mine and left the standard pre-facelift wings on.

Might be wrong then. Might of been the headlight throwing it out. Thought they looked different
