Bolero software fault says garage. Auto Technician says otherwise

Featured Replies

My radio decided to randomly turn off and then randomly turn back on.  The intervals would vary from 2 seconds to 10 minutes.   I brought it to the garage.

The Skoda garage said the following:

M101

Carry out vechicle diagnostic scan & GFF due to radio system not coming on intermittently.
Checked MVB all in speck.  Checked TPI found software fault in radio.  New radio required.  €876 fitted.

I wasn't happy with the price and they recommended an auto technician nearby.  I brought the radio and radio code to him and he reckons that there is no issue with the radio as he had it on for hours.  He mentioned to me something about a system in the car which communicates to and from the radio.  This was his hunch without seeing the car.

Then if it was a software fault why did the Skoda garage not download fresh software to the unit?

They said to me that a firmware or fresh software update would not fix the software issue and that Skoda recommends a new radio unit.  As a software developer it didn't make sense to me either.  I think my next action is to complain to Skoda Ireland.

Ask them to do the updates anyway.

Even if it doesn't cure the issue, it will be a darn sight cheaper to find out that way, than €876 for a new Bolero.
