Depends on your driving, I am super aggressive and I sometimes load my car to the limits , estate needs to serve it’s purpose, so wouldn’t rick the arches haha

So im going to be fitting my spacers at the weekend (weather permitting) is there any special steps that need to be take or is it a case of:

remove the wheel

apply copper grease to hub

place spacer over hub

replace wheel

install new nuts and tighten

??

you need at least 45mm studs dont forget. thats about it. The spaceers are hub centric just line up the holes and you are good to go.

Hang on does the Skoda have the studs attached to the hub itself or are there just threaded holes on the hub that the bolts/studs screw into, havent taken the wheel off to look tbh

The ones i got come with studs already....or though they call em bolts...

The studs in the pic are longer ones so should be ok.

Yeah just done the first one before it started to **** down, can tell it looks loads better already.

Any tips on getting the plastic nut cover that was on the anti-theft nut to stay on a standard size nut, as the plastic cover is too big for a normal nut?

To be pedantic   studs are what are fitted to the car to put wheel nuts on. The Skoda has wheel bolts. They call them different names to avoid confusion  ^^

OEM wheels are radius, aftermarket  tend to be taper

if you want to know what they look like with spacers, look at any Skoda press or show car (along with the ratchet strap ride height lowering)

You can always get wheels (VW) with the the proper offset for those arches

Think you have to get another 4 nut covers. Cheap enough on the bay

Ah they can be found on ebay, nice. Was toying with getting 4 anyi-theft bolts but there not that cheaper and with the cap you cant tell and not sure someone would go to the trouble of removing the caps to see it MAYBE there is no anti-theft bolt!?

Regarding apply copper grease, should the grease only be added between the hub and spacer NOT the spacer and alloy wheel?, i just applied it to the hub and then place the spacer on and didnt put any between the spacer and wheel

I did that on my other car last year, and had a hell of a job separating the spacer from the wheel (ended up destroying one of the spacers) so my experience is that you need to apply copper grease between hub & spacer AND spacer and wheel.

Ah too late now as have done them, if i ever do need to get them off for some reason, ill just use a blow torch on them to heat them up and then knock em off

BlockABoots, I was going to fit my spacers this weekend (same supplier as you, Watfields) but I was a little put off when I had a trial look as the spacers didn't fill the entire hub which is the same as yours (where you can still see the copper grease) did it not worry you, I've been trying to find other examples online but couldn't...

it does look odd... mine are H&R and are flush with the edge.

Paint the hub and spacer the same colour, and apply copper grease to the spacer not the hub, to help avoid it being visible.

The paint will help prevent them sticking in any case, I've not had to grease mine at all and had no issues.

I did think it odd, but its about a 1.5cm different, have you contacted Watfields at all about the issue?.

With the alloy wheel laying face down did you try inserting the spacer in the wheel (like it would be if fitting it to the car) to see if there was any 'play' when inserted in the alloy wheel?

Im not sure it would make them less save would it?, as is actually the centre 'lip' part that the wheel slots onto not the outer part of the hub? and its not the outer part that supports the wheel its the clamping of the tightening of the bots over the center lip of the hub...or in this case the spacer, hence whey their hub-centric??

Yeah it was only the first one i applied the grease on the actual hub, the rest i applied to the spacer itself. Was your spacer diameter slightly smaller than the actual hub when you fitted yours?

Yes, smaller - same as yours. As said, I painted them and unless you are looking for it, it's not noticeable.

Watfields make them as a generic 5 x 112 fitment which will suit a lot of different cars, (Octavia/Superb/Kodiak/Karok/Golf/Passat/Tiguan/Audi A3, A4, A6, Leon/Ateca to name but a few!) so I guess they made it to suit the smallest hub. If it was too big it would be even worse.

And you've had yours on for about 2 years and had no issues?.

Regarding the painting did you just paint the sides of the hub and the exposed face part or the whole face of the hub?. Did you use generic spray can paint or some specialised stuff..... I guess a black or silver would be the best colour to use?

Painted the whole hub, and all of the spacers (both faces and the edge).

Used some automotive aerosol primer I had already, and Meteor Grey aerosol paint I had mixed to match the car. Finished with clear lacquer that came with the paint from eBay.

I have repainted them a couple of times when swapping from winter to summer wheels.

Black or silver Hammerite aerosol would work fine I reckon, just make sure you clean everything well first, ideally with panel wipe.

I gave Watfields a call this morning and the guy I spoke to put my mind at rest, he assured me there would be no issue and there never has been with the hundreds of them sold!

What springs have you put on yours

  • 2 months later...

So is there any major difference in quality between these Watfields and H&R and Eibach pros ?

And will these fit with 19 inch wheels ? What "dimensions/sizing" to look for please ?
THanks

yes H&R are rigorously tested, and are the same size as the hub so the edges are nice and flush. i wouldn't put anything else on my car. Yes the fit with 19s

Well yeah it looks really nice. The question however is , where to buy them from and what "sizing" is needed for 19 inch ?
If I looks here, is this a good place to get these from? :
Which particular ones do you have or recommend (15mm front, 20mm back afaik) ?
Is this what I should be looking for ? : https://www.dcperformance.co.uk/uprated/h_r-trak^-wheel-spacers/skoda/octavia.html
Stud Patten: 112 / 5
Bore:57.1mm

Lets say is this ok  ? All dimensions ok ? :

Back: https://www.dcperformance.co.uk/cheap/779826/skoda/h_r-trak^-wheel-spacers/4055571.html

And which bolts are needed ? Any of these ?

What about locking bolts ?

Thanks!
