Bolero in Pre-FL with factory MFSW

Featured Replies

I'm sure this has been asked before, but searching is littered with lots of posts that don't really answer yes or no.

My car is a 2005 Octavia with factory MFSW and maxidot.

Firstly, is 1Z0 035 156 G  the Bolero from an Octavia, so is the shape as the Stream requiring no new trim?

I assume that this would firstly cause battery drain issues, so I'd need to fit and code a new CAN gateway?

I'm not bothered about maxidot integration. Losing the PDC and climate display wouldn't be the end of the world either.

Can the unit accept commands from a pre-FL steering wheel at all?

I know the Columbus can be changed from DDP to BAP, but I'm not sure that the Bolero can?

Anything else I'd need to consider?

Ok so to upgrade the CAN gateway, this will be sufficient to stop the battery draining?

1K0 907 530 K

My current gateway is: 1K0 907 530 F

OK after reading this some more, revision K is a maybe, if it has software

Revision L and greater is a definite fix?

So 1K0907530Q will stop the battery draining?

Quick look on google and the part number for Bolero is the older style so no fascia change required.

I think you are right about CAN gateway, L and newer are best bet.

When I had Bolero in my 2008 Octavia, the buttons on steering wheel worked fine and it should on yours too.

Best to go for blaupunkt one rather than Delphi one for the Pre- Fl as the screen is a bit dim on the newer Delphi ones

And try to get one with 054 FW - older firmwares are fussy about SD cards

Not particularly with the cards - more a case of taking too long to 'digest' the info before it was available to play. Here's 12 pages of light reading regarding it!

Is there a quick way to tell by looking at the unit?

Also is it upgradable?

Well mine was very fussy about cards too. Non-ending loading time was one issue but sometimes it loaded cards fine but after few restarts I ended up with reading error and had to format the card and copy all files again. Low speed 2GB card worked reasonably fine (expect for loading time) but small capacity made it unusable. Lots have been written about all problems so search button if best friend...

No, you need to power it up and look at service menu.

Yes and no - you can upgrade the firmware in original car (at least that I was told in Skoda dealer) and it costs around £100. I know guy in Czech who can do it for £30 but that is not an option for you I guess.

Thanks for the link John, I'll give it a read.

At the risk of being contradictory, yes and yes. ;)

The original firmware label will show what version it came with (not necessarily what it has now) and it's only updatable at a dealership. 45 minutes attached to their computer will get it - VCDS will show if you have the older version though.

The 054 might have updated the car SD card capacity too. The reason for small SD cards working fine is that there wasn't too much data to read so the 'slowness' wasn't apparent.

Well looking at the label it shows 029 as the SW.

I'll see how it goes when it comes. I got it for a bargain price and thought it was worth a punt.

Did you get the £32 bolero unit that forsale on eBay?

  • Author

Yes :)

Well done, such a steal as you could easily sell on if things don't work out and make a nice little profit.

I have a spare CAN gateway for the Octy still. Pretty sure it's a K so might be borderline.

Can stick in the post for you if it helps...

Ooh that would be really good if it's the right one :)

Having had a read up I think that the k revision that doesn't have the battery drain issue has SW 0171, which is stamped on the top of the unit.

0178 is the K revision which is okay. Previous versions (0170 & 0021) are upgrade available and not compatible respectively.  Link.

Edit: Did you get the Bluetooth box?

I'll check in the spares box for you later :)

Currently my 58 MFSW with bolero works except the fast forward & rewind buttons which now are on the skip buttons instead. Bit annoying.

Yep.

Or I've just had a delivery and have some here.

Ah shame I'd already bought the one on eBay.

Well, I didn't have them when you asked, so not a problem.
