She did get a new shape 55 reg Clio to play with for the day though.

One way or another you'll be paying for it. I've never paid for a courtesy car but I suspect the cost is absorbed in the sale price of the car or in the service cost. If you don't like it, complain or vote with your feet and use a dealer who do supply free courtesy cars

Yeah, it's a bit of a loophole, they offer free courtesy cars but they charge you to use their insurance.

If you check your insurance policy you might find that your insurance company will actually insure you to drive a courtesy car anyway - I know Norwich Union Direct offer fully comp cover for any car loaned while work is being carried out on the insured vehicle for up to 14 days. If you have a clause like this, no need to pay for the dealer's insurance...

That's what I thought too...however, checked out skoda.co.uk and where I'm almost certain it used to mention free courtesy cars as part of aftersales, it says to check with your dealer for "exact terms and conditions" of what's included in warranties, etc... :rubchin:

Skoda does provide warranty car however iirc your vehicle has to be immobile for 24hrs + to qualify.

Many larger insurers charge you a 10 admin fee to use own insurance... so you pay either way

Our dealership offers you a free courtesy car but charge you for every mile over a hundred that you drive,it's quite a bit too!

Here in Denmark dealers arent allowed to give you a cortesy car for free. AFAIK it has something to do with the right for free competetion.

On the other hand, i have never ever paied for a courtesey car, and that is at a big dealer.

So far i have been given a Octy 2 1.6, and recently a Fabia 1.4 Tdi PD. I must say that i absolutely adore the Tdi thingy. :-)

Audi's rules state that we(the dealer) must provide a courtesy car FREE,fully insured FREE, with NO EXCESS and enough fuel to cover at least 100 miles.

And what do Audi customers do - they take the ****!!!

And we are not allowed to charge them !! - we can ask them to replace fuel used - but if they don't we can't charge them!!

We do have to see drivers licence and if there is a ban within 5 years we can refuse a car -- other than that anything goes !!

We run 15 loan cars -- the smallest being A3 2.0TDi's, we've got A4 S-lines we got an A8 allsorts - they cost us a small fortune every month.

Our fuel bill JUST for loan cars is nearly £2k!!!!

When I had my Merc C class, the dealer would collect the car from my house and deliver it back again for free, not bad considering I live in a totally different town. However if you wanted a courtesy car instead, you could have one for free but you had to use your insurance to cover it and fully comp too. They wouldnt let you drive away without confirmation from your insurance company that you are covered.

Yes they will -- there may be a mileage limit,but ALL centres must have collect & deliver facilities.

If a customer is a little further away then we take a loan car drop it off for the customer and deliver there car back next day.

So a grand total of 160 miles driving to code a key -- and the best of it is -- nobody is paying for that - except us !! how's that for customer service.

The customer had a problem with his remotes(standard A4 problem-now a recall) brought his car in -- was advised to bring all keys - only brought 1 hence us having to do the magic shuffle above!!

Although I'm now fairly intimate with the turbo pipework on his car, it wasn't me.

I've never had a problem getting a courtesy car from Skoda, I never pay either - the whokle point of courtesy car that it's exactly that - a courtesy (for free, gratis, nada, zilch)!!

I think i'm definately gonna buy an Audi next though - and syphon out the fuel every time I get a courtesy car!!!! seriously though if thats how Audi look after customers i will definately be visiting them when its replacement time.
