  • Likely that BMW knew they just needed to design a driving machine as they were unlikely to be Taxis or Hire cars and there was no need  to impress paying passengers.

  • I've been offered one at £349 PM with a £349 deposit.   If I didn't have a baby due in the next 8 weeks i'd be all over it.

  • i know it has a 3.0 multi turbo inline 6 but the fact that BMW call it a 140i still seems wrong to me(i'm old enough to remember when BMW put a 4.0 V8 in the 5er and thinking that's badass) guess its

People opting for the M2 or maybe just overpriced for a wee car. Golf R taking business with it's good lease deals?

Only just seen this thread. My mate has been car hunting (see the other thread I've posted) and a M140i was a originally quite low on the list, behind the RS3 and A45 Mercedes. I remembered another mate had just chopped his F30 M3 in for a new M140i so we went over to have a proper look at it. Seriously impressed, decent amount of room inside, felt just as big if not bigger than my E90. I took my mate out for a spin in it, I was seriously impressed by it, seemed very planted and capable from my short drive in it.

After we looked at the price of them compared to the others it was a no brainer. I'm eyeing one up for our current 320d, nor for a while yet though. I'll have to make do with sharing the drive to BMW Welt. :D

I have thought the same before but now theres a 114/116/118 all with the same 1.4T engine it's not possible.

Worth a watch, even if it is the M135i

re post #33

& BMW 114/116/118's,   what is this 14T engine you speak of?

1.4? Or maybe it's a 1.6? Either way my point stands.

116/118 now come in different flavours (power outputs) of 1.5 & 2.0 litre petrol

BMW engines are just about as confusing as VW Group ones.

EDIT, Actually 116 are 116D now and 1.5 litre diesels..

118D 2.0 diesel

Quite like this guy's introduction video, into the purchase of his new M140i

My late father had an M135i hatch and it was really rather nice. Can only imagine the M140/240's are that bit better still. For me the attraction was all about the drivechain which VAG just do not replicate.....I think overall though I prefer the look and feel of any performance Golf to an M Sport 1 or 2 series. Certainly my 28k base Mk7 GTD looked and felt more expensive and better honed from a perceived quality standpoint than the 38k M135i...but the reality was build quality was on a par.

I think the M2 is a lovely car, really lovely but the price difference between that and a 140/240.....certainly for road/daily drive use I think the 140/240 makes more sense.....probably wont hold its value anything like as well though. The M2 will probably end up being rather another 1M.

Stock Dyno on M140i

Obviously BMW official figures are 'Minimum' and on 95 octane unleaded and not 99 octane super unleaded so at below 3,000 feet above sea level in not very high ambient temps the results are hardly surprising, any less should be a disappointment i would have thought.

Mature owner does a good 6 months ownership insight.

Quite surprised at just how much of a difference 50hp made.

Later in the year I'm hoping to get a new (to me) car and I've been looking at these quite a lot recently. They just seem to be cracking value and great fun to drive.
