VRS rattle need help

Featured Replies

HI,

So I think I read about every post on the octavia rattle that you can find!!!

I have this annoying tic tic sound that seems to be coming from the driver side.

I took the car to the dealer who put thick tape in the pillar but no luck. I tried putting a piece of paper between the R/L piullars and the dash, spraying lithium greas on he lock mecanism.

I haven't sprayed sillicone grease on the door seals though.

The sound seems to be cioming from the instrument cluster but I can't tell for sure.

If anyone managed to solve this issue, please please help me as it is rally annoing.

I can only hear it when I drive on poor surface roads, if I hit a bump or pot hole or anything, no noise, it is only ddriving on poor roads that shake the car slightly.

Forgive my English I am a french guy!!!

thanks

I had a small rattle coming from the plastic cover around the rear view mirror section. It did sound at first like the cluster until I tracked it to there! Gave it a whack and been fine since :)

Thanks I will check it this afternoon, I have a trip tomorrow on the road that makes the noise. How did you track it? When you say whack is it like hitting it or just clipsing it back?

Thanks again

I had a very annoying rattle which took months to find.

It was the passenger side seat belt clip, the red bit on the top, it was loose, when the seat belt was clipped into it, no rattle.  dealer replaced the complete unit under warranty.

Rattles arn't all ways where you think they are.

Parking ticket clip, stick a bit of paper in it.

Something is rattling in my roof around eyeglasses area for ages (at least the sound is coming from there in my ears), but I havent been able to find the culprit ever. No sunglasses, I tried holding everything while it rattles, its not the sunglasses cup holder, not the light switches, might be something coming from elsewhere..

Thank you all for your answers.

I tried the sunglass holder already but didn't come from there, I have the rattle when I have a passenger and belt clipped so not there either... Also nothing loose on the rearview mirror.

I will try to jam a piece of paper in the ticket holder and report back.

Check the seat height adjuster, it took months for me to find the source.

Windscreen parking ticker holder also rattles in mine on, I thought it was something behind the dash.

I have a slightly rattling A pillar cover, I will fix it later.

I also had a rattle from the centre air vent, I had to remove it and modify the clips.

After a while (70k km) the window switch and the door controller also started to rattle, I fixed them.

Otherwise it's a great car...

I had a rattle in the rear of my old Z4, it drove me nuts !! Even the dealers couldn't locate where it came from. Anyway, in the end, I bought a stethoscope, and a friend kneeled in the passenger seat while I drove...She kept putting the stethoscope on various parts ( Just like a doctor does), and after a couple of minutes YAY...found and fixed it :-)

My 3 month/3000 mile old vRS developed an annoying buzzing at certain revs from what seemed to be the top of the dash, in the centre. I remembered reading on here about someone with a similar issue and they found it was the sound generator.

Just coded mine to 0% volume (i.e. off!) and it has disappeared. :)

The buzzing at around 2300rpm is the fuel line vibrating. I had it after I deactivated the sound generator. Took it staight to the dealer that injected foam around the line. Problem solved.

Anyway, this afternoon my father was looking at my car and noticed that the cover on the left side (the one between the door and the dash)was not completely clipsed in, one clip was out. I clipsed it back and on my way home, the biggest rattle was gone, I occasionally got one time to time but really light. Anyway tomorrow I am takiing a road I know I had that rattle on, hope it will be gone, I'll let you know.

Damn rattles are still here... I think I'll buy a stetoscope and try to track it

I have a 2 month old VRS at it has a squeaky sound coming from the front dashboard/ A pillar passenger side.  It is only there when travelling at 100kph (yes the speed limit) and isn't there on cold mornings.  When the weather is warm it reappears.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Still looking into it

have you tried putting 2 passengers in the back?

I had a rattle, turned out to be the rear seat belt buckle rattling against the hard plastic sides to the seats

Well not yet, I have my son's seat on the left side wich uses the belt. I'll try clipsing the other belt on my way home tomorrow and see.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll let you know

Let me know if you find it as I have the same one.. A tick tick type rattle from driver side behind instruments! Driving me nuts

Exactly the same, will invest in a stetoscope to try and nail it down

I saw someone else had a rattle (I have a rattle too on mine and it's only done 2,000 kms, it sounds like it's coming from the drivers door). He took his to his dealer and they said they fixed it by tightening the door trim?

Have you checked the seat height adjuster?

Just hit the seat frame to initiate the noise.

This stupid rattle also exist in our 2 brand new company cars and sounds like it is coming from the door.

I have electric seats - I wonder if it still applies? Will try hitting stuff tomorrow :)

My Car had a few rattles.

Windscreen - fixed itself.

Drivers door - trim was tightened up by dealer.

Engine bay at 2000rpm - intermittant.

Lots of creaks/ticks now owing to the increase in ambient temperature in the UK.

No experience here with electric seats.

Oh, and the simply clever bin (in door pocket) also rattles in mine if it's closed or fully open.

I keep it half way open until I fix it somehow.

A quick fix for all rattles, turn the stereo up and play nothing but Dream Theatre, Alter Bridge and A7X
