My car is still making a bizarre whirring noise that is a suspected failed diff, but this evening it is making a hissing noise from under the bonnet. Its porbably a split hose somewhere.

Before I bought the Octavia someone on here told me they were reliable and 92k miles shouldnt be a problem.:thumbdwn:

Not at all impressed with the car at the moment, never had such a bag of poo.

Not offended at all. However, the parts that have failed are the same as the VRs so the pertentage increase in power that those parts should be able to handle is much smaller.

I agree that if I haddnt had it remapped I wouldnt have gone drag racing and it would probably still be functioning as it should.

TVRs dont break.. they just require more regular servicing as indicated by the random service indicator. (usually passed to the driver as either misfiring or rainwater to the head or ar5e or a stench of burning.

In standard form most cars are totally reliable. Your airfield really does not help, my 4x4 diff went and I've been in an Octavia which ate it's diff with no warning. You have had warning at least

I fully expect to find my turbo is cracked when I inpsect it as the car has basically been driven hard for 65k, modded for almost all of them. I expect component failure, it's the flip side to the smiles every other day.

Your drag starts will be hurting like hell owing to the amount of grip you can generate on that surface. that said in a straight line it should not be that stressed...luck of the draw sir.

Don't be down about it all cars go through a phase of niggles, if they didn't half the mechanics in the country would be laid off and we'd keep them for more than 3 or 4 years.

I agree with Colins comments, I have broken quite a few bits since I started modding the car & also drag starts put a massive load on transmissions, clutches & drive shafts

Little tip I have been told, part of the diff is riveted & these rivets tend to fail under heavy abuse so before you fit the new one consider replacing the rivets with high tensile bolts

Ive managed to source a s/hand RS box for mine so they are around, I am paying £400 + carriage + vat. I add I havent broken the 4x4 box, I just need a higher top gear, a s/hand box might be the cheapest way out, PM me if you are going that way as I might know where there is another RS box, JUST make sure its compatible with your car, I was amazed how many gearbox codes there are

I saw a failed gearbox/diff last week from a modded Octy vRS, where the rivets had sheared off and chewed a split about 6" long by 1" wide in the casing, wrecking the whole lot.

Be warned, they do go bang if abused too much.

prob si they are a cheap vw parts bin special... the box is not strengthened in any way thus is a weak point.

uprate the power the clutch/tyres need it. uprate the clutch / tyres the box fails. uprate the box the drivshafts will go. uprate them and something else will go.

Well, up until know I was sure I was going to get my vRS remapped; a) if I still had it in a few months and if I had the spare cash. But, having read this thread I have been a bit put off....

Goochie, if it make's you feel any better. I had a Rover 620 turbo before my vRS. I modified that quite a bit and my REPAIR bills for a 2 year period came to £8000!! Rovers are not that reliable standard let alone modded. Just saying it could be worse...

I don't think it's as bad as it's made out and certainly not all down to the remap.

The diff on my Golf Mk4 broke when it was running standard power. Most of the other stuff wrong with Phil's car is just wear and tear and to be expected on that sort of mileage.

Nothing wrong with remaps...i can reccomend a good tuner:rolleyes:

Agree with Eddy, Forge 007 or 006 are great and Forge have always provided me with a service kit (not repair) for mine FOC:cool:

I used Forge DV's without problem... they just work.

Phil, the probs on mine didn't start until well over 110k miles. No, it was not standard. Yes, by that time it had don e about 10,500 track miles.

May be I just drive like a girl?
