Dpf and Egr delete

Featured Replies

Hi there guy's,

I'm after some advice regarding my Octy Vrs diesel

I'm thinking of removing the dpf filter pipe with this, see link below

Have any of you used this replacement pipe?

I'm also wanting a egr delete kit. I'm told by my brother I need to do it. But I'm unsure where to buy a kit. I contacted Darkside performance who were not sure and me this answer and link below

For the EGR I am not 100% sure what is needed. At a guess it would just be blanking plates but you would need to check how many and what sizes you need - http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/egr-blanking-plate-for-turbo-egr-port.html

Any help would be appreciated..

Cheers

Darren

This needs to be done professionally - it's not just a case of removing the DPF, the car needs to be told, I.e the ECU will need a re-flash. In most cases this is done with a stage 1 software upgrade, and also can blank the EGR.

Speak to a specialist like Shark Performance who will be able to explain what needs to be done.

You have posted in the Octavia MKIII Section, the link you have provided doesn't mention the 184 BHP Engine as in the MKIII Tdi Vrs

Unless I've missed something.

Ah ok so ecu needs to be adjusted itself as well?

I contacted Darkside Performance with car details and vin and this is what I got back. Obviously based on the mk7 platform.

I already have the DTUK tuning box could this be used ?

Yes or the car will still think the DPF is in place, and still try to do regens etc.

Oh well might have to wait till car is out of warrenty.

Removing the DPF is not allowed I thought if the car was designed to have one or is it limited to cars built after certain date??

This is another example of where the MOT does not test for legality, just for whether it meets the MOT requirements on the day.

The MOT tester isn't allowed to do any more than a visual inspection, so it if LOOKS like there is a DPF fitted and it meets the smoke etc. emission requirements then you will get an MOT pass - even though removing the DPF on a car built after one became a legal requirement makes the car technically illegal.

Very true. Years ago I used to turm ny old range rover mixture down a bit before going in the testing station and put it back after the MOT. The mixture screws had no anti-tamper protection.

Why do you want to carry out this work? The dpf and egr system on the mk3 works well and tunes well with it in place. It's also one clustered component so there would be a lot more work involved than on previous models.

Exactly my thoughts, I could understand wanting to do this on a PD170 .........

It's the kindest thing that can be done on the PPD170 next to having it crushed.

Simples MORE POWER????

For the cost and possible hindrance on reliability compared with a stage 1 with it left in place and is known to already yield good results you're not going to be achieving a great deal more.

It is an offence to drive a vehicle which has been modified in such a way so that it no longer complies with the emission requirements it was originally designed to meet. Bear this in mind when removing the DPF and EGR systems.

Probably invalidate your insurance unless you tell them.

Good point!! They will look for anything these days. I'm sure there was someone on here who nearly got screwed over just for changing the colour of their wheels!

Exactly - I wanted to change the wheels and tint rear windows. Insurance company refused to insure me if I did this. If I'd done the 'modifications' without telling them then the insurance would be invalidated. Goodness knows how they would react to major engine modifications! I'm just waiting until renewal time in December to change companies.

How close to Dudly do you want?

Angel Tuning offer this service, AFIRC. They do good work IMO, but they're not the cheapest.
