Coming back to the Superb fold

Featured Replies

After nearly a 3 weeks without a car (it feels really weird! Do have access to a CR140 Jetta) I have put a deposit down on a car.

Currently not even seen it as been listed but not at dealer.

62reg CR170 DSG estate, L&K lux pack, 49k miles, just serviced, DSG oil and filter done. £12990.

Should be in this week some time and can then arrange to collect from Norwich!

Happy days!

Excellent! Looking forward to seeing and hearing all about it :)

Good news - hope it all works out after your TSi episode. Some good luck is deserved.

With that spec, you'll have to spend an awful lot of time checking the car out though - there is a ton of goodies and toys to inspect!

Thanks. Main dealer so will have the approved used warranty etc.

Really looking forward to it apart from cleaning the Sirius alloys! Will have to find away to maximise protection to minimise cleaning :D

"My" TSI has sadly been sold off the 4front car sales site, some poor bugger has been lumped with it. They have been reported to trading standards who were going to arrange a visit...

Chemical Guys Diablo gel is excellent for cleaning wheels. Just be sure to leave it dwell for a while. Last time I washed the car, I went out first thing in the morning and sprayed the wheels then I went and had breakfast and did a few other jobs around the house. When I got out to the car, a quick rub of a cloth got the wheels spotless. For the Sirius wheels, a wheel brush might be a worthwhile investment.

I hope my TSI will be ok. Dropped 7K on the odometer since May :)

Do you then seal them with something? Thinking it may be easier to do off the car :D

I'm planning to but I need to get some fallout remover first. I got some CarPro DLux a while back to seal them - the stuff comes highly recommended on a detailing forum I frequent.

It's definitely a wheels off job to do properly.

Use wheel cleaner to remove the brake dust, then use tar remover followed by fallout remover to prepare the surface. If you want to be really anal, you can clay the wheels at this point. Then apply the coating and let it harden.

Welcome back to the fold!  I have the Sirius wheels on mine and the wheel brush with a quick rub after with a soft dry cloth is the best option IMO, as mentioned above.  They are a bit of a pain to clean but really set the car off when you do the job.  A good power hose at least once a month also helps to lift most of the heavy brake dust.  My ones are actually all silver (I spec'd those over the standard wheels with the darker insert) but as I understand it, UK spec L&Ks didn't have this option and yours will most likely have a darker anthracite type insert on the inner part of the alloyl i.e. where the brake dust normally accumulates, so this should help a little as the dust wont be as obvious.

Well I've got the car now and so far so good.

Battery needs to be changed as it's struggling to crank the car and Carista reports low voltage when trying to do anything. In discussion with dealer to sort out.

Dealer so far has been excellent and very helpful. Picked us up from the station w when it was peeing down with rain.

Car has some small scratches but has been serviced recently Inc DSG.

It has Landsail tyres on which are shocking. Noisy and a curious detached feeling in the wet. Boy squirrelly in the dry to. They're new so will be coming off and sold. Replace with some GY F1A3. I don't know who thinks they are good. Ruin the car IMO as so much drone and lack of feel.

Need to do a full scan on the car to check if I can enable hhc.

Sirius alloys are all silver thankfully. I have also got the dimming rear view mirror and side mirrors. Never had dimming side mirrors so bit weird!

Ventilated seats are very good and I really like them!

0-60 is OK but the 60-80 is very impressive and pulls well. 6spd DSG is much smoother than the 7spd.

Landsail = sails through a stop sign  :p

Metallic Poo Brown :D

Battery is being replaced next week as it feels weak and struggling to start at times. Drops to 7.4v under load.

I will be going for the F1A3s as had F1A2 on the twindoor and they worked so well. They are rated much quieter and last well. I got 15k out of the fronts on the twindoor - best I've ever had. From what I've read about the RS3s they wear quick and so may be a false economy. By the time I've paid for fitting there isn't a massive saving (imo)

Metallic Poo brown is a cracking colour.

RS3's do wear fast but I cant get over the grip you get with them but saying that I just got 21'000 miles from cheap "Three A  P606s" which Camskill are now selling for about £33 and on the 4x4 they never gave me any scary moments at all....

The LandSails are absolutely awful! Constant drone, wash wide at the slightest provocation, glassy feeling to the steering, lack of security when trying to press on, wheelspin etc etc. Rated as F wet rating; no wonder they're so cruddy! The drone at 70mph is like a drill to the head!

Having had cheap tyres in the past (Jinyu, Evergreen, Ovation) on cars I've bought; it's made me realise how important they are and so pay much attention to group tests, EVO, AutoBild etc tyre tests. £80 difference between a good and cheap set is less than a 1p a mile. Think I can afford that :D

F1A2 was an immense tyre, never felt less than totally locked down.
