Warning, Lights on Warning.

Featured Replies

OK, so it was dark enough for me to put my lights on for my journey in to work one day last week.

By the time I get to work it is light enough that I don't need the lights on.

So I make the usual mistake of not turning the lights off when I leave the car.

An hour later someone tells me my lights are still on!

Now, you are saying that after you turn the ignition off and open the door you get the lights on warning buzzer.

BUT, at work I have to park up tight to the drivers side so I exit the car via the passenger door.

Yes you have guessed it, the warning buzzer only goes off if you exit via the drivers door.

Oh well hopefully I can remember this.

Or can this be changed to work with both/every door?

Thanks AG Falco

Can you not reverse into your parking space at work then you could exit via the Drivers door

May I ask, was it just your side lights you put on? I found if I put my full lights on. When I turn of ignition and remove key, they turn off too. It's only if I just select side lights (parking lights) will it stay on, as this is what they are mainly for.

^^^ Sidelights are not Parking Lights.

The car has a parking light function. Light switch off, indicator stalk down, one side front and rear sidelight on.

(& one rear number plate light.)

Sadly even then a Fabia battery can be flat before many hours have passed if you did use Parking Light Mode through the hours of darkness.

What sensor triggers the buzzer?

Could one for a lhd car be fitted to solve this, or, as A.G. says park properly bay reversing in.

Lemme guess - you havent got the auto-setting?

If, set the handle in auto-mode and forget it.

Well, you still have to change main and dipped manually.

BTW, my sparsely equipped Seat, and as I remember from previously owned VAG- cars, the light goes out when the engine stop running, even if set in on-position. Parking-lights can be lit but not mains, which indicate that theres a relay missing in yours-or maybe all UK-models?

It was just the side lights that were on as is was misty rather than dark when I left home, but at work is was sunny.

Yes I do not have automatic lights as I can tell when it is dark.  :)   ( I can tell you a story about that.)

I always back in to a parking space but to leave enough space for us to park 3 cars in a gap built for 2

the two cars parked either side ( of the middle car ) have to park up close to a fence.

I would assume that for a LHD car this works for their drivers door and not the passengers door?

So it is something with the programming that controls this.

Also I have noticed that the dash lights appear to change brightness depending on the brightness outside?

When you drive into your parking space, is there a wall or fence facing you? If so, put a notice on it, such as "Turn off your lights".

Having trouble believing this is a real problem and don't understand why you cannot reverse-park....or arriive earlier and bags the centre or left space.

Might just be me but I always have a quick look at my car while walking away especially at works carpark

A make sure it's straight

B clock the cars next to it so if there is any damage I can shoe them in the next day

I am one of two that arrive first and also leave last. We also have other cars that block us in.

I did try parking the other side once but the person that parked in front of me used my new car's front bumper/grill

as a bump stop for his X3 to stop backing up rather than his rear parking sensor/eyes.

So I have become a bit paranoid about my parking to the point that I think:-

If I park in the center slot the car can get attacked from both sides. :)

If I park on the right my car will be uses as a bump stop so this leaves me with the left rear slot.

I always back in and also get accused of parking the drivers side of the car so close to the fence that you could not get a fag paper in between the gap.

If there is no way ( using VCDS? ) to change this then the tip to take a last look at the car will be my plan.

My first post did end with a question!

Its probably all there in the CPU, but youll need to change the handle to achieve the auto-setting.

It shall hurt badly to upgrade what you didnt notice at time of purchase!

Did anybody know that this would happen?

eg:- that the lights on warning buzzer only work with the drivers door.

The point of this post was to advise people of a possible problem and to see if there is a solution.

It is not really a problem for me, especially now I know.

Sorry, but it is difficult to get the nuance right with just text.

Oh I hope that someone was not driving in UK in misty conditions with just side lights on - how naughty is that!  I was driving East on the M8 (Glasgow>Edinburgh) at 20:45 last Tuesday and was overtaken by a dark blue, I think Fiesta with no lights on at all - where are the highway patrols when this sort of thing is going on?

Parking at work, when I worked, I discovered that there was a parking space that was wider than the rest, slot marking must have started at both sides of car park and ended up with a 1.5 times car parking space - that became my one, if I got in at usual time, excellent, if I parked exactly in the middle, the one on each side also benefited from this wide space. Unfortunately when I was car sharing, that space ended up being used by others - and some others tended to park on the dividing line at one side of that wide space, which meant that someone else would squeeze in to the wide space at the other side and bang their door of the car parked corrected in the next space - usual rules applied there, if there looks like there is a space, or almost a space, that is good enough!  Over silly thing in that car park, there were LN2 phase separators above this parking area, these phase separators tended to malfunction a bit and large snow/ice balls "grew" on them, this meant that someone had to break these snow/ice balls free - surprise surprise, these snow/ice balls when "liberated" did tend to slide down the short sloping roof above a short parking area and "whiz" across the space below and land on top of cars parked below - not good!

Absolutely, I've known that for as long as I've bought cars with that function.

I think some highly complicated parking diagrams with labels, times, sizes, angles, proximity, access points, rights of way, wind directions, tyre pressures, oil levels, music playing at various points during the process etc would really help.

OK so I have checked this on about 10 other car's of various makes.

I did happen on a Skoda Fabia II and on a VW Passat.

But it did not happen on the rest I tried including Ford, Volvo, Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen.

So perhaps it is a VAG thing.

I have never had a VAG car before.

I did not check this during the test drive.

I do not remember reading it in the handbook.

Your main dealer will know the answer to your question as to whether the 'buzzer' function can be enabled for the passenger door too.

Give them a ring,or better still drop in,I'm sure they'll be happy to help.

PMSL.

?

Who will that be, the receptionist, service desk staff, qualified technician, sales staff, dealer principal or more likely the car washer or cleaner who has a mate that uses a forum.

Look I am not a Fabia III owner nor driving a RHD as my Roomster is LHD, but (there is always a but...) Since 2002 that I own Skodas all of them have that light buzzer activated only from the driver's door. And as far as I tested some VWs they act the same way.

Like the Fuel Pump that primes cars when you open the drivers door. (Before the key even goes in the ignition.)

Only happens when you open the drivers door, not the passengers side.

Well the cleaner probably would be the best help and work on down from there :D

They certainly see more cars than anyone else at dealerships next to the car wash person.

Those are the ones with least time to sit and read the sales brochures and owners manuals but often know the most about what is on sale and what they can do.

Theres a good chance, do remember that the wast majority of Skoda drivers do use the left door when leaving (or entering) the car.... :P
