Peculiar Irish radio problem?

Featured Replies

Anyone else in .ie noticed odd problems with sporadic jumps in radio volume  -  especially on RTE ?

(anyone still listen to RTE?)

Have a 2015 Fabia 3 with the Swing touchscreen radio.

Wondered if similar happened on Boleros and Amundsen/Columbus?

Every so often, the Audio would change, very briefly - go quite loud and seem to go to Right Channel only - and often caught a change (a flicker really) on the screen, out of the corner of my eye - but so brief, that I couldn't catch it.

Anyway - it occurred to me that it might be the Traffic Report TP feature, and that, while RTE don't use it actively, I wondered if they triggered it sporadically for reasons best known to themselves.

So, I turned off TP. And I have not had this problem now for over 4 or 5 months. Previously, it was every week or two.

So - if it's RTE or a fault on the Radio, I'm not sure. Apart from, a brief visit to NI, the Traffic Report function worked perfectly with BBC.

When asked in the dealers - they said it was grime on the touchscreen. And not to use wet hands. :notme:

Id say its our ****e broadcasting network...

so many local radio stations broadcast on frequencies stupidly close to nationals that they interfere, cross each other etc while youre moving.

Eg i keep getting the awfulness that is tipp mid west cutting in on newstalk on my way to work, because the frwquency bands overlap and signal strengths so variable.

You're not alone actually.  I also experience this sometimes but thought it was just me.  Its just the volume change I notice, definitely on RTE but not sure if its limited to RTE.  I never thought of TP so must check that.

Yeah, I agree with you there.  Some of the local ones are really close to some of the others and the distortion is very noticeable at times.  I know what you mean about that particular station - I'm around Clonmel most days and get interference from it with Newstalk...not much contest there!!

They do the obituraies as often as the nws headlines on that station...

Mine has started to do this not just on the radio but on the media function as well when listening from a SD card.
