2 days of ownership and I'm getting unhappier by the hour.  April 2016 L&K

Speed limiter: Today I find a post that tells me adaptive cruise control removes it.  But prior to purchase two dealers tell me L&K has it. Handbook describes it but have to look in car to confirm control stalk is the ACC version and therefore "No". Sales brochures contain marketing weasel words apart from in "Factory Fitted Optional Equipment" where "Cruise control with speed limiter" is an option on the "S" and "Not available" for other models". I've had a speed limiter on nearly every car I've owned since 2000 I'm lucky to live in a rural area but there are lots of empty road 30mph limits with mobile cameras "enter 30mph, after two fields a farm, 5 more fields and a left hand bend, village now visible in distance but did you see the camera van on the left?" The ability to just press a "Limit" button to fix the max speed removes the need to keep looking at the speedo and concentrate on the road.

Sat Nav.  No trace of any TMC bulletins (press "Traffic" and "All" or "Route" options).  "TMC" is displayed over a thin red "/" - initially thought it was a logo. The manual states TMC cannot be switched off.  I've got DAB and FM reception (including Classic). Try Skoda support , "I'll ask Technical" "They wonder if the cars got it".  Ask if the dealer has to "register" a new car for services to be made available. No knowledge.  Dealer will ring back tomorrow. Find forum post that TMC isn't what it's cracked up to be compared to Garmin etc.

Android Auto: Dealer tries to connect my phone.  My phone refuses to connect (enables USB data link then closes the link). Told it must be my phone - a Google nexus 5 that is 100% pure Android.  Internet search provides the solution = Android's security refuses the connection because the car's "date and time" are set to "manual" -changed to "GPS" and it connects!

I've tried to find the exact specification the car - option codes on label.... etc. Do the codes only relate to "ordered" options and is there a way to get full specification? Is this just an issue with Skoda? - Looking at a new audi and the salesman could produce a detailed specification of the car - not the "packs" but the individual items - discovering that a standard rear view mirror was "just a mirror" and "add £120 for auto dipping" didn't close a deal.

If I knew what the car "has" I could search for potential VCDS coding solutions (speed limit via road traffic sign recognition?) and ask about what "Ross-Tech" kit to buy

Are you in the UK ?

When I select a route and then traffic it shows the TMC symbol in top right corner of traffic window whether I select route or all.  The list clearly shows traffic issues but nowhere near what my lancer did. For example the M1 rugby- northhampton roadworks do not appear but they did in my lancer

Yes UK.  In support of my comment about dealer registration I would say Kenwood (garmin sat nav) units require the provided subscription number to be entered and from March 2016 on the golfmk7.com forum "I'm not getting any TMC message when I press the TRAFFIC button on the right side of the infotainment system, I think I know why...had the main unit replaced under warranty but since that no TMC Traffic messages are appearing and a small 'TMC' logo appears with a line through it and by refreshing the service when I press the traffic button doesn't return any results. At a guess I reckon it has the wrong adaption value stored in the adaption channel within the 5F adaptation channel for ' TMC' .

current stored value is: 32771.

can someone in the UK (who has VCDS) look into 5F, then 'adaptation' then scroll down till you find the following channel:

Free-based traffic information (TMC)

I need to know the stored value for this in the UK please guys....

Don't know what the issue is with the speed limiter - if you have ACC on you set the max speed and it doesn't go over it...surely that's a limiter? I.e. If I go into a camera controlled average speed, I pull the stalk toward me to enable ACC, push in the button to set the speed and then knock the stalk up or down to change the speed limit as required.

A dealer should be able to print you off the build list of the car from ELSA, this will have a full list of PR codes on it.

Theres a option in the menu to enable / disable traffic alerts

Speed limiter is a totally different beast to ACC? I may wrong but this is how I find it working Example: driving down an urban street using ACC. 50 m ahead  someone approaching a pedestrian crossing. What to do? brake/reduce speed setting,?? After the crossing there is a set of traffic lights turning to red decisions again. Speed Limiter you just lift off the accelerator, brake if required, pass the crossing then coast or accelerate up to lights. There's no setting/resetting and vehicle acceleration is just down to your right foot. ACC is in effect travelling as fast as possible up to a maximum speed - it doesn't recognise cyclists, pedestrians, dogs, children etc. Fine for trunk roads/motorways excellent for the M1/6 Friday nights. Putting it another way "speed limiter" ensures you comply with speed limits but how fast you drive with respect to road conditions, other users and potential hazards is down to you - a ball rolls across the road, does ACC lift off until it is satisfied that the owner is staying on the pavement? (I've used "you" meaning "the driver" not Kungfugerbil).

I'd be delighted to be corrected about ACC!

Isn't that just for radio audio based alerts and not radio data ones?

I understand that is to disable local radio voice broadcast "traffic updates" that interrupt whatever you are listening to.

I lost the TMC traffic alerts when I changed all my preset FM radio stations. Got it back by saving Classic FM as a preset once again.

Example: driving down an urban street using ACC. 50 m ahead  someone approaching a pedestrian crossing. What to do? brake/reduce speed setting,??

Brake. ACC is not a substitute for awareness of your surroundings :)

After the crossing there is a set of traffic lights turning to red decisions again. Speed Limiter you just lift off the accelerator, brake if required, pass the crossing then coast or accelerate up to lights.

You can do all that with ACC. Knock the lever forward to disengage and you will coast to a halt. Or brake, then just pull back to resume the speed afterwards.

.. a ball rolls across the road, does ACC lift off until it is satisfied that the owner is staying on the pavement?

No - it's not a substitute for awareness of your surroundings :)

Developing a driving style using the ACC takes some getting used to - I didn't use it at all for the first couple of weeks. I use it pretty much every journey now. If you're driving through a city centre and stopping every 30 seconds for a ball in the road or red light, it's probably not the best time to use it, but you're also unlikely to exceed the speed limit. You're lucky to get up to 10mph on some commutes :)

peter_k - You are right, speed limiter and ACC are two different things. Several cars such as some Peugeot, Citroen, BMW, Toyota and doubtless many others have both a speed limiter and cruise control.

When you don't have a speed limiter you get used to using the cruise after setting it to, say, 30mph or whatever, manually braking or pause the cruise when you feel the need then re engage the cruise again up to your preset speed.

Ideally it's nice to have both cruise and a speed limiter, you'll get used to it.

My wife's Mk7 Golf has Limiter and ACC. I can see where the OP's frustration comes from as the Limiter is a good bit of kit. I thought it was on my L & K from the manual but sadly, it's not on ACC equipped Superbs it would seem.

I read the message wrong. Yes that's correct.

The Sat nav does re route you I have found if I press traffic and then route.

It took me via the centre of Antwerp after the auto route was closed.

It's probably worth noting that limiter will still happily let you exceed the speed limit if you are going downhill or just entering a 30mph from a 60mph for example - it doesn't apply the brakes, only uses engine braking.

It's odd that it isn't applied consistently across the VAG portfolio though!

Same as most of the other tech in the cars, tbf... "Oh, Sir wishes his car/engine/gearbox to be fully functional and up to date? In that case Sir needs the Audi/VW, which luckily for you today is only £10,000 extra or just £350 per month* ". :D
