rust after nearly one year

Featured Replies

Any opinions on whether to raise this under warranty ?    while rotating wheels and cleaning each area ,  i noticed this rust on both front  hub areas,  near side shown only

I think you'll find the the "Corrosion warranty" only applies to body panels.

A careful anti-corrosion treatment by a certified Tectyl-or-the-like-shop is never too late.

Never mind the corrosion warranty.

still under warranty and rusting anywhere  on the car .   i doubt that is acceptable though ?

I guess if you look at the 15 plate Fabia's on the Skoda dealers forecourt you would see the same?

It would be interesting to hear what a salesman would say if this was seen on a used one year old car?

You will get told "cosmetic" I'd guess, it is a bit annoying that the black paint VAG uses on assemblies just does nothing to protect them, I reached under wife's August 2015 Polo and grabbed part of the rear "axle" and a sheet of paint/rust came off in my hand, a quick bit of covering up using Hammerite smooth or satin black will work for one winter!

Edit:- it was the "generous" rusting of TRE etc nuts/studs that made my life hell when carrying out my first suspension repairs on wife's previous 2002 Polo - the seriousness of that rusting, was for me, a first in at that time, 30 or so years of fixing my own cars, first suspension job on a VAG product though!

seriously  ,   will have to give skoda the boot  after this pcp is up  ,  rust after 11 months is just not on ,

i can manage the constant steaming up  ,  and the crap phone interface ,  but rust  so early -  forget it.

pity as its not a bad little car.

exposed running gear like that surface rust is not an issue

the rust warranty is painted body panel, and the longer 10 year warranty is perforation only (you need a rust hole all the way through)

I suspect you will get the "they are all like that" answer

You'll find that practically all cars show some signs of rust or corrosion after a relatively short period of time, it's quite a common occurrence and VW AG are in no way the worst culprits.

You wanna see some 3 year old+ jap cars, they're nearly ready for the scrap yard!

Must admit when the roomster went in for its first service they sent a video heath check

I was surprised at the amount of corroded components underneath the tech didn't seem concerned so it didn't worry me

jeez,   ok,  i guess my standards are too high in terms of expectations  of a new product.

better get the wire wool and hammerite out .

thanks for the comments

My Fabia never steams up,but I have climate control. Even so,my wife's Citigo doesn't either, because she always has the aircon on.

I wonder if your settings for air circulation might be wrong?

I have a Blackberry Classic and a Motorola Android mobile and have never had a problem with using either of these in the car. Do you have the Bolero unit in yours and which mobile phone do you use?

As for the rust,I'll keep a strong eye on mine now.

galaxy s5   phone ,  and i just find the windscreen if cold ,  needs air con on all the time to keep it clear .

i put a de humid crystal bag in the car ,  this helps .

Yep - agree with bluecar and James@,

Those are forged/cast bits - and they do tend to have a surface layer of oxidation if unpainted. And even the light paint coat usually put on those kinds of components, generally shows up rust pretty quickly because of the relatively rough surface of the metal castings (air/moisture gets in easily). Heavy castings like that shouldn't show any more deterioration than that surface oxidation/rust layer. The paint is often more cosmetic than functional on these heavier components.

The threaded bit is bare untreated steel and ditto, will show a rust layer. No harm (though not essential) on a bushing like that, to apply some kind of rust preventive. Threads on those parts often pigs to move when renewing bushes and the like. Might be a good idea - especially if you're the one going to do your own work in a few years time !

Also, noticed the foggy spot on the windscreen sometimes. Quick blast of the blower (aircon on) usually nails it in seconds.

Like your idea of crystals though.

There were threads about misting up by early purchasers I got my car April 2015. I put a bag of moisture absorbent crystals in the car which helped also advised to clean the windscreen with a good car glass cleaner which helped Joe

Dads 2010 corsa suffered badly from condensation

We used a karcher window vac for a few days still kept coming back

Changed the pollen filter and it cured it the scuttle panel drain holes were partially blocked causing dampness to get to the pollen filter

Not saying that's the issue here but worth checking

I normally put the car over my pit in the garage and check everything myself each year. I do keep the underside of the car clean and use Waxoyl on my nuts! I wipe it over the suspension arms and rear axle and have never had an issue with corrosion. When I was in the trade, all makes of vehicle suffered corrosion on suspension, tre's and some even on the underbody panels. But thankfully, not Skoda. Never seen any corrosion myself on Skodas. Don't worry about minor corrosion on suspension, but you can kill it with some Waxoyl wiped over it. It's a good way to go as painting is usually only very temporary unless you get the area spotlessly clean, whereas Waxoyl creeps everywhere and sticks well even if there is a bit of dirt around. But it does need redoing every couple of years.

I'd be surprised if you find a better one in this class of car. Most manufacturers are clueless on this front. VAG are amongst the better ones.

Telling us you "use Waxoyl on your nuts" sounds like a bit too much information to me Estate man. How are you getting on with the new car mate? I so nearly was tempted the other day when I was browsing around Westgate Skoda.

Harry.

Tee hee!...hello Horkin mate! How are you? Yes my nuts are in good order...as is the rest of the car. The new car is a revelation Horkin, do try one if you have even the slightest inclination that you may want to change. The new 1.2TSI 110ps is simply super smooth and very potent. The 7 speed DSG is wonderful and about the smoothest auto I've ever had or driven. Needless to say I'm impressed and very pleased with it. It is full of technobabbley stuff that surprisingly is very useful. No rattles or shakes from the interior and nice firm handling. I went for the SE model which I believe offers the best value. It runs on the more comfortable 15" alloys, and is quiet as you drive the motorways or any road in fact. I have the eco tyres which I had my suspicions about before purchase, but I needn't have worried. They are good! The garage even put "special wind" in the tyres before I picked it up, and at no extra cost either! The old air they put in a carrier bag in the boot, just in case I needed it in the future sometime. That's service eh!

Hows the beemer going? Or was it a Rover? Sorry I can't remember but I know you found a special motor for yourself.

Very nice to hear from you Horkin.

It's a Rover 75 2.5 v6.  Love the car but wife is finding the seating so low as she struggles these days with back and hip probs and misses the higher seating position of the Fabia.  I miss the DSG I must be honest, Well see how things go.  Once a Skoda enthusiast always a Skoda enthusiast as they say!! Nice to here from you EM!
