Mirror Dip & Reverse Camera Questions

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if there's any way (through VCDS or otherwise) to have BOTH mirrors dip on reverse?

I've got the settings sorted to get the passenger one dipping, but that's on the assumption that I'm only reversing into a carpark by turning left..... It'd be nice to have BOTH of them auto-dipping to my preset selection, when selecting reverse, which would accommodate some right-turn reverse manoeuvres.

Just a quirky thing though - it's a little odd that you have to set the mirror button to the Left (presumably to the right side, for LHD models) to get it to dip - it would be nice if they both just dipped automatically, as soon as reverse was selected.

And is there a VCDS hack that will allow viewing the rear camera, when NOT in reverse gear?
There's some occasions it'd be handy to be able to see the rear view, when moving forwards.

Using a rear view camera on a vehicle with mirrors may be legal under Australian law, but not in the EU.

Given that you have to have the mirror switch to the left to enable it to dip the left mirror, then even if you could code both mirrors to dip then you would need to have both mirrors selected by the switch?

I'm not sure on the legality of it here.  Was just wondering if it was possible.

I like the fact we get another second-or-so after moving out of reverse, that the camera stays on screen..... but it would be nice if it would stay on for say, 10 seconds, or be able to be selected manually from infotainment, without having to engage reverse gear.

That's my point - I'd like to have BOTH mirrors dip to whatever I select and save in the memory setting, when I select reverse.

I know I can sync the mirrors so they both move together, when manually moving them..... but I'd like to set this into memory when selecting reverse.

It's only by reading the owners manual that I discovered the auto-park function would look for parking bays on the drivers' side by putting that indicator on.  If no indicator, it will only search for parking bays on the passenger side, which would be the normal side that drivers try to park.

But I can't find any method of setting the mirror-dip to activate both mirrors at the same time.

If you have the Mirror switch set to Sync in the settings along with auto dip ( Passenger Side in Reverse ) does it not take the Drivers side mirror with it when selecting reverse and the Mirror switch in ' L '

No it doesn't, that's how mine is setup and only the passenger mirror moves.

There are times when I use the auto mirror dip on passenger side and the mirror did not return to its original position after use. It seemed to have returned 70% only. I had to adjust it upwards manually. Had anyone faced this issue? How do I sort it out to return to its pre-dipped position Everytime?

If you don't have memory sets then there is no memory for the mirror position so when it dips and returns it makes a "best guess" effort, which very often results in the mirror not returning to the same position.

i was reading up on memory mirror for the octavia.

it seems like a change of door control unit would allow memory settings for the passenger side mirror.

I am not very sure what is the correct part number for this module, as there a few listed for Octavia MK3.

Anyone could verify from their car?
