Fuel consumption Vrs

Featured Replies

So the tank is virtually done maybe another 5/10 miles left. Its done 320 miles to £52 of fuel at 113.9 a litre.

Just replace your MAF and ECT sensor.

Edit: And stop CRYING, if you can't afford to run a car, get the bus.

Not the train though,as that's way more expensive than running a VRS

What sort of distances were the average drives?

And under which diagnosis have you determined that these are at fault?

Far from being able to afford to run it or CRYING about it. I've brought it as a run around car to get me around until i buy another performance car. No point buying a car for good economy and it uses more than it should.

My shortest drive is to and from work at 3 miles each way. Car usually warms up and shows a good average MPG. However after work if i go out it gets a good decent run.

My drive to work is 5.2 miles and if I don't do any motorway miles and just drive to work and back (with a few other random drives) I'll only get about 350 miles.

That said, I drive to, through and back from Holland and got 550 miles from the tank before I lost my bottle and filled up.

If you're doing many of those 3 mile stints your fuel economy will massively suffer, as you can see.

My run to work is now about 12 miles mate and I'm getting ~ 350- 370 miles / tank. I like to spank it occasionally and had an average reading on the dash of 18.5 Mpg once :D

does seem slightly heavy for the spec, but as above short cold running journeys are not where a dirty diesel is at its best I'm afraid.

You would be better off with a one litre or 1.2 litre petrol engine for your usage :)

No - my 1.2 3 cyclinder does about 33mpg on a short drive driven sensibly

In very cold weather, or when engine is cold it drops significantly

On a longer drive I get about 37 -45 if im careful

Small, low powered engines have to be worked hard to get anywhere hence the relatively poor fuel economy.

Driving a VRS to the same speeds as a 1.2 or 1.4 would get much better fuel economy.

+ more fun when you want to get a move on!

Not when you work out the cost of the fuel used, a small petrol engine is more efficient on short journeys than a 1.9 ltr derv :)

Well if the driving was all short journeys then yes

Depends on how many are short journeys vs longer ones would average it out a bit
