Upgrading boot lighting...

Featured Replies

Hiya guys,

I could really do with a big upgrade of the boot lighting on my Octavia III, but the LED bulbs I fitted in the interior lights are too big for the holders.

I am aware Super Skoda do a "mega power LED cargo light" that replaces the full bulb units in the boot, and I'm just wondering if anyone has these, or any better alternatives?

Cheers :)

Sounds exactly what I am after.

Have you any pictures at all in the dark mate?

I also have the Superskoda lights, they are fantastic and plug and play fitment.

Hopefully this should be a picture of the said lights....sorry about the poor focus!

I have these, very bright ones...

Tight fit, but no modifications needed.

I installed heatshrink tube on the electronics to avoid problems.

...and here's a testing video of the LED bulbs.

I've ordered these for the doors and boot. I've got one in my old fabia so I tested it first to make sure they work/fitted.

I think the biggest difference with the Superskoda ones is that they have a bunch of individual SMDs and therefore the light spread is more even.

I've got something similar on eBay. Price was (and I can see it still is) 2.88€ shipment included. Important aspect for me was to have a single-sided type. Not the most common type, but packs most output where you need it...I have no pics but it is a vast improvement over stock.

I have these LED bulbs in the boot, fit perfect & they are very bright but can't remember if I have Canbus or non Canbus, something is telling me non Canbus as the interior of the car is not monitored.

you have to select 2 x bulbs error white from the drop down box

I have those also. Very very bright!

Without mod? Just plug & play? No error?

Trunk lights are not monitored so you can stick in pretty much whatever without throwing errors or the need for coding.

I didn't know that. Thanks.

Can I put them on licence plate?

Can I put them on licence plate?

Will Probably get an error.

Yep no mods needed, simply just plug & play, interior lights are not monitored so no coding required, but if you change any lights for the exterior, then they will need coding etc.

Are the superskoda ones canbus or non-canbus? After reading in a different thread about the heat the canbus ones develop I think I would rather avoid such.

Checked (by me) and they fit. And you don't need the additional heatshrink tube as the LED electronics can't get in contact with the bulb holder.

Also fitting is much easier than in the boot lights as there's more space for the bulb.

'Bad news' is that you still need someone with VCDS for two reasons:

1) coding is needed to avoid bulb out error on dash

2) coding is needed (again) to reduce the light output

I like bright lights but these bulbs produce far too much light for license plate lighting.....

Superskoda ones here too, terrific! And I've coded nothing in vcds for them to work faultlessly.

Check my build thread to see the boot and door ones I've fitted

These are a definite upgrade. Don't have resistors as far as I can tell. Are not 500lm (which would be ~equivalent to a bright 50W gu10 halogen spot) but are more than adequate. Easy fit to the boot (fitting at night will affect your night vision for a while) - direct replacement. Have not tried as exterior bulbs but would probably need coding via vcds. Also probably too bright for number plate bulbs.
