Heated Rear Screen

Featured Replies

Anyone had a problem with parts of the heated rear screen not clearing, due to it not heating up. Noticed that on the middle sectoion of the top few wires they don't clear on our Fabia, rest of the rear screen clears fine. As the vehicle is only 14 months old I'm wondering if this is covered by the warranty - I've never  had a fault on a heated rear screen beffore.

Or is there some feature that I'm not aware off.

If in doubt ask the dealer.

14 months asuming theres no outside interferance (i.e no damaged caused by yourself or an object) id imagine the warranty should cover it. Id be suprised if it didnt.

Do you have a dealer sticker there or was there one ??

I have exactly the same problem and put the details on this forum.  The dealer claims there was a sticker in the area where my heated rear window fails to clear and that it must have been scraped off.  But there are also a couple of areas in the middle of the screen where stickers don't go.  As I bought the 65 registered car from them in February this year with only 19 miles on the clock and I know I haven't scraped a sticker off, they have agreed to replace the rear screen at their cost on the basis that it might have had a Skoda sticker on which might have been removed by them before I took delivery.  The rear screens are on back order so I'm waiting for a date to take the car in to be fixed.  They say though that the 'fault' is not a manufacturing one.

I think there are real issues with dealers putting what are free advertising stickers anywhere on cars, particularly on the rear screen which seems to damage fairly easily.  Either way, I'm OK with the dealer's approach.  Just waiting now.

Nope no sticker on the rear screen and its right in the middle so not the sort of place you'd expect a sticker. Nothing has damaged the screen as far as I am aware. What you can see is that  2 or 3 horizontal wires about 2/3 of the way up in the middle of the screen are a different colour, to either side of the middle on these wires, it clears fine. You can tell which parts don't clear by the colour of the wires.

I bought the car secondhand at 11 months old so no idea about what could have happened previously.

I think the fact they are in backorder speaks volumes as to how much of a problem it is

Thats an easy asumption to make but not always true.

Hum, I tend to agree with the logic connecting "back order" with "lots of problems with deliveried units" - seen a lot in the past. With big companies they will/must set aside "for dealer spares stock" - and when demand suddenly exceeds expectations, they have no where to go as they can't rob from production stocks.

I've read a posting with pictures of different colours within the same heated rear window, and the areas with "wrong" colour are the areas not heating, maybe on this forum?

So there is hard evidence of others having this problem.

Having worked for vw and Vauxhall on the parts side u can pretty much guaranteethe part is either backorder due to exceptional demand or its currently going through a supersession

Guess a lot depends on Brand. I'm not saying it's wrong, it's just not a gaurentee.

Really depends how geared up a brand is for certain parts on a recent model.

I've had some interesting experiences with Iveco and backordered parts haha and even weirder supersessions!!!

So the vehicle was bought as a 12 month old used one, so a very early build.

Hopefully Skoda UK will see you right and get you a rear screen that is not faulty quickly if a Skoda Dealership employee is not taking it seriously.

It would be good to hear if others with early built cars get the same problem.

Skoda CZ might well be aware but only of customers or dealerships are picking up on it.

At least two of us with the problem not caused by stickers or scratching:

From nbramwel's Heated Rear Window thread:

At the moment that the bottom half of the rear heating elements don't work apparently due to damage on the lines. They wanting £400 for a new screen. I think I'll put up with it.

Used to be able to get a dab-on repair paint to mend them.
Probably caused by someone's diamond ring breaking the circuit.
Google " heated rear window repair paint " - they're cheap enough & back in the day worked a treat . .

I don't think my heated rear screen issue is casued by scratching or stickers either. See attached photos, the are affected is just too large for a sticker......One is with the tailgate open the other is with it closed.

Further update:

Phoned local Skoda dealer this morning, they said they'd need to book it in so appointment made, phoned back lunchtime to say they like to inspect the rear window to order parts. Went down after lunch, technician looked at the elements, confirmed it was defective, that its wasn't due to scratching or stickers took a photo of the discoloured wires and said it would now be refereed to Warranty claims. Phoned back just now to say it will be replaced under warranty, parts are on back order - they will contact me when the parts arrive to book it in.

Perfect customer service well done Skoda!

Notified last Friday that the parts are now in stock and the rear screen will be replaced on Thursday. Hopefully all will be fine after that.

Rear screen replaced, all done - now just need to test it. Had a 3 door Citigo manual loan car, great little car for buzzing around in, reminded me of my 1970's Mini. With the 1.2 TSi 110 bhp engine and perhaps some slightly wider tyres it would be great fun!

Here's hoping the Citigo will get the 1.0 TSI that the Up now has when it gets facelifted! Glad your issues have all been sorted.

Had my rear windscreen replaced on Monday at no cost to me (see above).  Need to check it doesn't leak when it next rains.
