Checking the Oil - 2.0 Tdi Diesel

Featured Replies

What colour is the dipstick end on Seat, VW, Audi 2.0 TDIs ?

You could only use the dipstick from the same engine in the same configuration (eg same sump and 16v/8v head etc).

The thing has to be calibrated at the right length, so the stick from same engine with a different lower sump bottom would show you the oil was ok when infact it might actually be low.

Anyone else think the handbook implies you should check the oil when the engine is hot?

Reading the comments about the oil not showing, a few weeks ago i posted that why is the oil black even after a service. the oil from the can is golden colour.I suppose its because i have had petrol engines where the oil is almost transparent all the time providing its serviced regular and diesels go black.

Sorry to drag this one up but I'm having the same problem.

Can't really tell how much oil is in the bloomin thing! Wipe the dipstick - insert - withdraw and the whole thing is coated in oil. It's as if there's oil on the sides of the dipstick pipe and the dipstick gets dragged through it as you pull it out, making the reading pretty meaningless. Wondered if anyone has developed a good technique for using this atrocious piece of design to get an accurate oil read?

Has anyone got an answer to how you are supposed to tell your oil level yet??

At first i thought this thread was a wind up having had dozens of cars including Octy 1 turbodiesels, Faby vRs's and a Octy 2 TFSi without having any problems assessing the oil level but since getting the Scout I've had the same problem that Naill describes!!

Wrap white/yellow/blue electrical tape over the business end of the dipstick, check the level, take it off.

You only need to do this once every couple of weeks/ thousands of miles, really.

Sadly the family cat died a couple of years ago of heart failure, the vets said it was probably to do with it being over fed too.

:(

Did you feed it on the approved semi-sythetic kittikat? ;)

Chris

How about buy another dipstick (except skoda will probably want
