Parking assist finished

Featured Replies

Hello ladies and gentlemen. When i press the button to initiate the parking prosidure for the park assist, it just says "park assist finished" on the dash. The button doesnt light up like the parking sensor does eighter. Any ideas? The easiest way is to scan i guess, but has anyone encountered this before?

You put the indicator on?

You put the indicator on?

yip. tried both left and right and without.

I'm guessing this is something that used to work and now doesn't?

If you're new to the car, note that you need to press the button before you reach the space you want to park in since it uses the sensors to check the size of the space first and see if it's big enough for the car.

The 'Park Assist Finished' message indicates that it has completed the operation or it has detected a condition that won't allow it to start.

I have only had the car for å couple of months,

i have tried to press it while im by the rear car of the gap im parking in, before the gap itself, in motion and while stationary.

I have tried a scan with a basic error code scanner, and it doesnt produse any codes, so i guess i will have to take it to the shop for further investigation.

It will only work while you're driving below a certain speed, probably 10-15 km/h, but there was a post on here previously where park assist said the car was going too fast regardless of its speed. I can't find the post and I don't remember whether it was resolved unfortunately. Using park assist is painfully slow compared to just parking the car yourself, so you're not missing much. The main reason to have it is because it means the car comes with front and rear parking sensors.

The panoramic sunroof should however always be specced on cars with park assist to allow the driver to stick their hands out the sunroof to show passers by they're not steering... :P

hehe :D

I will try some more, and if i cant get it to work i will put it on the list for next service. no rush :) tnx guys.

What's the age of the car and type?

2009 sedan

Sounds like a fault but one check is that the Park Assist function is automatically deactivated if traction control is 'off'.

BTW, it's not necessary to press the Park Assist button before reaching the space.  You can press it after passing the space because the vehicle is continuously monitoring both sides whenever you are driving - so you don't have to anticipate the space. This lookout system operates whenever your speed is less than 30km/h.  If it finds a suitable space it will be stored in memory until either, another space if found, or you are ten metres past the original space.

In my experience the Park Assist feature works very well, and is faster than any human I've ever witnessed at putting a large car into a very tight space.  However, it doesn't work so accurately if: the space is very large (a couple of car lengths); there's only one car to reference off; or the other cars are badly parked.  At the other extreme, if the space is tiny then it really works a treat.

I use PA all the time and it's outstanding and, as Jules said, is most accurate when the gap would be really challenging without it. I really hope you manage to get it resolved.

I've had the car more than 5 years and only tried park assist about half a dozen times.

And over rode the system very quickly every time.

I really wish I hadn't ticked that box as I have been able to park a car for almost 50 years.

If the car came from a dealer, go back to the dealer. Otherwise you need VCP or VCDS and check a few settings. Our 2014 has PA II and it was not working until I changed / corrected some settings. Unfortunately the dealer was not much help here.

Generally PA is quick as said above, but I still prefer the driver parking.

It is something I must try out at some point I suppose. I have had the car three and a bit years and never used it once. Every time I think I'll give it a go, another car comes up behind and it's quicker to do it my self than Phaff around learning how it works.

Must try harder......

My wife says we don't need park assist, but my left front Thermisto says otherwise...

rhandbber did you get your PLA fixed?

I have attached the instructions I followed to fix mine. A guy put PLA into his car and he put the coding steps online. I took screen shots of his VCDS and he put remarks below each screen.

So was it driving you nuts because it wasn't working and you've activated it, or was it driving you nuts because it WAS active!?!
