I've had a 4Mb SD card for a few years in my 2009 Octavia. The music is slow to load and I'm wondering if there is a better spec card to get for the Bolero in my 2016 Octavia . I don't really need a larger card.

Something like a Class 10 I guess but you could try to defrag the original card or reformat it first if it's been written to quite a lot.

If 16GB is all you need then fair enough, but you could have had a decent branded 32GB for a couple of quid more, or a 64GB for £13.

Make sure you buy from a reputable source. There are so many fakes out there and the read/write speeds can be terrible.

Cancelled my first order for a microSD card, should have read the manual more carefully, and re ordered a full size SD card as per Rogerstone. Manual refers to vibration shaking micro cards from the adaptor. No other advice on maximum memory size or speed class.

Well I plugged in my existing Class 4 4Gb SD card and all the albums come up immediately on the new Bolero. Unlike the old one where it took several minutes every time for the media to activate.

A USB stick and a phone via Bluetooth also fire up instantly. I'm very impressed after all those years of acceptance.

There should be no problems reading an mp3 from an old card even class2 or class4.

The file size is small & when you are playing a song it has 4minutes to read maybe 10mb so this shouldn't be a problem at all.

 

I'd suspect your original "slowness" is down to the old headunit rather than the card.

 

 

If buying from Amazon, I'd recommend only buying from Amazon directly or a company that has a physical presence in the UK.

There are lots of "market place" scammers out there & lots of complaints about "fake cards" or "rebranded" chinese imports..

I have for my home system, just the flipping VW sat nav (not pro) will not read FLAC!!

 

Anyway I found reading the manual that the SD card class the faster the better, however the HC/XC?? class is the thing that really puts a spanner in the works!! Can't remember what I have in my car at the moment...sorry...just it's a Sandisk extreme that I use, nothing else for cameras, etc

I did re-convert a lot of music to MP3 from FLAC just for the car... and have a 128GB USB for the cars

Anything at 64GB or bigger will be XC type - the default format for this is ExFAT which you will need to keep if you want to access it from a Windows machine. 

Foobar2000 will also convert from pretty much any format to any format, though you will need to find a copy of lame if you want to convert to MP3. 

 

Does the SD reader really support SDXC cards? Considering Sandisk Ultra 64GB were €20 last time I looked, they're almost a no-brainer...

Fired up Windows Media Player. Ripped 16 CDs at max MP3 quality to add to my existing 4Gb list. Now 6.6Gb Now it takes 2hr 45mins to copy my music to a SD card. Before it took "only" one hour.

3hrs for 6GB? slow card or crappy reader. I'm running 50MB/s in both directions for Sandisks with my camera stuff....which means 6GB takes around two minutes...

 

If you use MP3Tag, you can embed the album art into the MP3 file and it will show on the display.
