What would you do?

Featured Replies

Evening,

I'm looking for a bit of advice. Last weekend the roof of my 4 week old VRS to me got damaged by a firework. It's dented the roof and scratched the clear coat.

I need this addressed as it's my pride and joy. I went today to a official Skoda dealer body shop in Glasgow and await a quote from them. Another third party dent repair specialist quoted £240.

Problem is the dent is above the passenger side window, on the roof (I'll upload a picture tomorrow). They both said the headliner will need dropped down to get access in behind etc which I understand. Worries me a little that this is going to be done - I hope it all goes back together ok.

Would you try get a Skoda dealer to sort the dent or would you go with a reputable third party dent specialist? I'm struggling to find a company in Glasgow with a large review list.

Cheers

I've previously used a company (Dents Away IIRC) and they did a fantastic job.

Done a G search and couldn't find anything, do you have a link if possible?

I guess you should wait for your quote from Skoda but I imagine it will be 10x that of the repair specialist which will probably make the decision for you.

Skoda wont repair it themselves. They will use a 3rd party company. I've had a load of paintwork redone under warranty and the work was by a 3Rd party.

I think you've answered your own question.

Skoda sell cars

Dent repair specialists, well, they do exactly what you're after.

Oops - it was Dent Devils that I'd previously used.

Hard luck.  I fear this sort of mis-hap is becoming more common as bigger fireworks become more easily available to the general public.  My parents got damage to the poly carbonate roof of their conservatory from a firework falling back to earth a couple of years ago.  Hope you get a good repair without too much expense and like everyone else I would be using a repair specialist, not Skoda.

My 230 was 3 weeks old when some bas**rd put a dent just above the crease on my passenger door. A couple of companies said it would need filling and spraying !! I rang 'Chips Away', who I used once before, and 2 hours/ £96 later sorted, Totally spot on..No harm in giving them a ring.

My last car, a Honda Civic, was damaged by a local who took a dislike to 8 UK cars in a French supermarket. Apparently none of the dozens of French who were around witnessed his rampage! Back in the UK our local accident repair centre tried to pull out the dent with a vacuum pump but the soundproofing bonded to the inside of the roof was also dented and kept pulling the roof skin back in. Dropping the roof lining and removing the dent cost under £100; but there was no paint damage.

The one thing that could potentially affect the cost of the repair is if you have curtain airbags fitted, as the airbag system would need to be correctly powered down to prevent any accidental triggering.

Cheers for the reply all.

I'm going to get a few more quotes from different dent specialists and will report back when all sorted soon hopefully.
