Disabling lane assist warning

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm soon to be the owner of a new Superb TSI 162 with all the packs included. Big decision maker for me was the semi-autonomous driving to help me during the peak hour commute to and from work (the monash carpark!).

The lane keep and adaptive cruise works awesome but there is a pesky warning after 15 seconds that tells you to move the steering wheel and if you don't it applies the breaks briefly. I guess this is to ensure you are paying attention and not asleep which is helpful!

I'm interested if anyone has tried disabling the warning via an OBDeleven or similar device?

Also, could be a stupid question but does enabling the traffic updates via the OBDeleven allow the NAV system to detour you around traffic like google maps?

Thanks

I disabled it on my SEAT by going into the Menu available to set / reset / chose driver aids etc,  Door Locking, Coasting, Lights, Lane assist warning etc.

Does your car not have that available to set up from the drivers seat with the ignition on?

I haven't picked up my new car yet so can't double check but I couldn't find a setting in the demo car I drove. The sales guy didn't know of a way to deactivate the waning either.

Just to be clear, I still want the lane assist feature, just not the warning that comes up after it steers itself for 15 seconds or so.

It's an assist, not a semi-autonomous system, which is why there's a visible and physical warning to stop you being an idiot and ensure you keep your hands where they should be - on the steering wheel.

There are more than enough "Warnings" printed in the manual...

■ The assistance systems only serve to support the driver and do not relieve the driver of the responsibility for driving the vehicle.

■ Only enable, disable or set the assistance systems when you have the car fully under control, in every traffic situation - risk of accident!

■ Lane Assist can help you keep the vehicle within the lane. However, it does not steer the vehicle for you. The driver retains full responsibility for steering at all times.

It's in the menu in between 'Disable all airbags' and 'Disable ABS'...

Well, no obviously :)

Asking for some sign of life every 15 seconds or so isn't unreasonable IMHO - it is not autopilot as above, it's to assist when you're actively driving the car.

I find this "feature" pretty annoying. I understand why it's there, but to have this warning come up repeatedly on a straight stretch of motorway, when you have had your hands on the wheel the whole time, is rather irritating.

We are not quite in the age of driverless cars, so as annoying as that warning might be, it is there for a good reason.
