Arrggh even more problems! Headlamps this time :(

Featured Replies

Thanks to everyone who commented in my recent thread about my screen and stop / start issues, the car is booked in ti be looked at soon and I'll let you know the outcome. But here we go again, yet another problem has reared it's ugly head yesterday!

I was quite enjoying the adaptive headlamps feature so far, and had got used to the advantages of the beams gently bending left and right as I went round corners. I was even beginning to think that some of these modern car features might actually be quite good.....until last night.

I was driving along an unlit road, all going well so far, until I came to a fairly sharp right-hand bend on full beam. Instead of the headlamp beam bending gently right and then back to the straight-ahead as it has been doing for the last 3 months of ownership, the beams darted quickly as far to the right as possible, and then just stayed there even once I began to go straight again. I say the beams, it was more the right-hand headlamp than the left.

I stopped the car, turned it off and back on again, the headlamps did their dance, and all seemed correct, Until I steered right again, and once again, the beams went as far right as possible. This is on both dip and main. Obviously the beams are now useless as all they are doing is lighting up the offside of the road, and dazzling every oncoming car.

For now I have a workaround by switching the lights to 'on' instead of 'auto' and they just point straight ahead now. I have used the car about half a dozen separate times since they started playing up, and as soon as I switch to auto the problem comes straight back. So it's clearly more than just a software glitch.

I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had this issue, and if so, whether there's a reset or something that I can do, or more likely I fear, it's yet another problem for the dealer.

I am getting close to ditching this car now, I have to say. I wish I had never sold my Mk. 1 VRS :(

Short answer; the lights to exactly what it should do.

I didnt like it either, so I have turned off city mode, rain mode and all weather/fog mode in the xenon module. You need vagcom/vcds to to this.

Rain mode is actually quite nice in heavy snow. It doesnt give the White wall effect that normal headlights give with highbeam. But on dark roads in rain its quite useless.....
