Featured Replies

Just thought I'd post a quick message to say hello and a little silent scream that my Furby vRS is going to take until next year to appear - ah well, I've got a pretty good deal on the trade-in that's only getting better the more I drive it.

I can't believe I've owned a Skoda for nearly 2 years and haven't found this site before.

I'm fascinated by the discussion of performance tuning but I'm curious as to why people are willing to lose their warranty to do it?

Anyway, Hi!

Faye

"warranty" - bit of a grey issue. I've got 7 months to run after my remap in December, but then if you fiddle with something, it cannot be covered - fair enough IMO! - It's when it comes to bits you've not touched going wrong, and them voiding your whole warranty, it becomes an issue... (can you tell I've been there?)

As for the 2 years - Don't worry about it! I took about 20 months myself.

Welcome to the site BTW!

Anyway, Hi!

Faye

hi faye and welcome! :D

depends on a lot of things re. the warranty thing. one of these things is an understanding dealer. another is them proving that your modification caused whatever fault.

most of us who have made the move have weighed up the cost:benefit ratio of getting the car remapped and are very happy with the choice we've made! :)

Welcome, Faye! If you read the various threads about tuning you will see that warranty issues to date are very few and far between. I would hazard a guess that unreasonable wear and tear is a bigger warranty issue, ie owners abusing and/or neglecting their cars. Those members who have had their cars tuned tend to be those who also look after them properly.

I must say that the idea of 180BHP in such a little car is appealing.

Is there a gallery anywhere of owner's cars? I'm particularly keen on seeing the lesser spotted yellow and silver vRS's

Faye, the greater spotted black vRS is much more common on this site. :)

Welcome Faye, I pick my silver one up on Saturday, I was lucky everyone was quoting next year for the car, but then I found a dealer with a red one, which he has traded with another dealer for the Silver one I wanted, the only things I couldnt get were the heated seats (not available till next year anyway) likewise the sunroof, which to be honest I wont miss anyhow.

Anyway I'll bung a couple of shots of mine up after I pick it up.... oh and after I get some miles on it, I probably will get it fettled with ;) 180+BHP and over 300ftlb just sounds too good! hey and I've got shares in Yokohama anyhow so doing myself a favour ;)

Cheers

Evening Faye.

Im one of the lucky people who have already got their vRSs :D

welcome to the site :)

you wont be dissapointed in the car either.. im loving every second of mine :p

Welcome Faye... Next year? I don't think I could stand the wait!

Still, lot's of vRS malarky going on round here to keep you occupied until then :D

Welcome to briskoda, for fabia vRS pics you can search around the general forums older posts, or for some pics of a yellow one click on this link http://www.octaviars.com/fab16v.htm . you can find more piccies by using the gallery link above

Faye.

You certainly won't be dissapointed with the vrs. As for the remapping some dealers, like mine have encouraged me to have it done and have said that it wont affect the warranty.

Just don't tell the wife!!!!

Hi Faye :)

I took some pictures of the black and silver furby vrs. They are located here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/xavier.walker/Fabia_vRS

I haven't been bothered to create a thumbnails listing, so you just get the normal directory listing of photos ;)

Thank you very much for all your messages. I phoned the dealer today and he said the car he ordered for me had slipped to the end of january beginning of february!

My heart sank...

But, he said, another customer has cancelled his (black) vRS and gone for a different car so that's now mine and it's due before christmas!

I still think I may explode beforehand!

just dont explode on the white upholstry :D

Welcome Faye

Sounds like you should have a nice little christmas prezzie for yourself.

Will it come gift-wrapped ? :D

 - I'll get Mike @ Jabba to wrap my new chip before shoving it in my car.. Won't be much of a surprise though, will it? OoooH! [rip, rip] It's a... chip. :D

Getting anything of magnitude around Xmas always feels that much better than at any other time of year, IMO. I get that when I fall victim to the Jan Sales before the New Year!

MonkeyHanger:

Maybe my (ex Rink End) Poolie partner can sneak over to the dealer early and wrap it for me?

How old is your H'Angus? He doesn't seem to have DNO on his shirt!

Provett for England!

Welcome to Briskoda, Faye

Sounds like you (or is it your partner?) are another monkey hanger. Don't worry, I hear that they tried to hang a bear in the Forest of Dean :D

Glad to hear that you're not going to have to wait quite so long for your Furby as you thought (but at least you have a decent car while you're waiting).

On the subject of modifications... Well, the official Skoda line is that ANY modification will void the warranty. However, in practice, it seems that:-

- if you modify something, and it fails, then that's it. Your problem.

- if you modify something, and something related fails, you're in a grey area. This is where a "mod friendly" dealer is handy.

- if you modify something, and something totally unrelated fails, Skoda UK will honour the warranty, even though they don't have to (but don't rely on it).

As Huck said, it's all down to cost/benefit analysis.

Yes, but I bet they didn't elect one Mayor too :) I'm not the monkey hanger but I do help my partner support the pools via the internet.

I love Octavia to bits, I will probably miss her a bit, but it was time to have a car which is a bit more fun to drive. I test drove the vRS Furby and was smitten!

Thanks for the information on the warranty too...

Again, I can't believe it's taken this long for me to find this site, it's so useful and friendly!

Faye

I found a furby to be going on with until xmas :)

I'm proud to be an adopted Poolie!

Woohoo! Another Furby vRS owner to be! :D Seems that mine is still the only Yellow one though. Thanks to Manny for posting the link up to my piccies! ;)

I hope you will get as much enjoyment as I have done with mine so far!

Welcome to the show Faye. For tuning if you are concerned about warranty, I reccomend a TD performance box, it fits between the ECU and the injector control, it increases the power to 155 BHP and torque to 310Nm, and it can be fitted and removed in 3 Minutes as it is two power wires and the multi plug connections for the ecu, Diesel car magazine has a lot of adverts for other companies. My dealer loves my vRS with the box, 120mph in fouth.

Gentle word of caution, anything that is the plug in/plug out variety I agree can be changed quickly BUT if your car is stolen & then recovered trashed but with it still fitted the Insurance company could spot it & then its probably a case of sorry but ..............

Thats fair enough and a good argument, i've upgraded the alarm to cat1 to make it harder to steal although the best anti theft device money can buy is on the front grill. at the end of the day you pays you money, you makes your choice!
