How to define my vehicle Model Year

Featured Replies

I thought i would be able to do this myself but failed doh!

Looking up my VIN the 10th character is a G but which MY is this?  First registration was 29-09-2015 so obviously made before then.

Last 6 digits Body serial number is 017383 if that helps

VIN decode sites have not been helpful even suggesting the incorrect fuel type in some cases.

TIA

Bob

Yes indeed! Thank you

I did do a forum search honest......

Did not know that, cheers john999boy

Interesting. My 10th digit is A which equates to 2010. Registered Dec 09! So is my 59 plate FL Est a 2010 model?. Another part of the VIN is 1Z6 so if sourcing parts, should any that have a 1Z designation be suitable?

Yes, your vehicle is Model Year 10 which starts in something like week 45 of 2009

The MY just happens to line up with UK licence plate change date but why the hell pan european car makers adopt this year definition is a mystery to me.

It's chance that it roughly lines up with UK plate changes.

During the summer the factory is shut down so it can be retooled and when production restarts it's a new model year. At least that's the common explanation online for VAG model years :)

Using the web VIN search I learned that

TMBBC9NE3H00nnnnn

Is translated as

TMB = WMI World Manufacturer Identity - Skoda I guess

BC9NE3 = VDS Vehicle Descriptor Section type, model, platform, engine, transmission - so Octavia hatch SEL 1.4 TSi DSG

H00xxxxx = VIS Vehicle Identifier Section - old fashioned chassis number?

And the sticker in the handbook and inside the boot lining somewhere carries all the build codes for the options, as per the build configuration tool if your save your build spec.

Bob,

Cheers for clearing that up. Much appreciated. Very necessary when sourcing spares.

My previous car, an Audi, was a 2007 model but I took delivery of it in JULY 2006. How come? Because the factory started making 2007 models at the beginning of JUNE 2006.

Model year and calendar year are only very loosely linked.
