Decisions time is coming near

Featured Replies

The OP has already said his circumstances have changed, the Qashqai is a very capable car. Not sure what a Kumquat is but I'm guessing it is some sort of derogatory term for the Qashqai.

So not a viable alternative to a vRS then  :D

Yes Kumquat is my nickname for the Qashqai.

All these SUVs are the same, they are big on the outside but small inside.

The Octavia is proof these SUVs dont work.

People buy Qashqais thinking they are big inside when they aren't.

Then we have our car parks full of these things taking up a space and a half.

It might be worth checking the reliability for the most recent models. I sat in my colleagues fully specced model and liked it but reviews on 2014-2015 models had a common theme of electrical issues. it will be pretty gutless in comparison with the TSI but the OP states changed requirements and obviously accepts that. The values of the MKIII will only fall further I suspect with the FL version due out.

I just had the same choice. Mine was the same price as yours bought at the same time and was on 0% PCP and free servicing. Ive done 20k, but 6,000 of that was all at once in 2 roadtrip holidays. People who like me don't drive to work don't do high mileage but that doesn't mean we don't need a car or that we don't want it to be a new one.

Since I bought the car Skoda has closed down all the dealers near me for some reason so my local dealer is in the next county, pretty unhelpful. Went all the way there only to find that it wasn't possible to order either an old Octavia or a new one, and no servicing or 0% offers any more. I was looking at a Kodiaq but the cash and PCP deals are very expensive (refused to negotiate even a penny), and dealer didn't do PCH.

So I've bit the bullet and I'm trying PCH on a Kodiaq from a dealer up north, lower payments than the Octavia and for a more expensive car. I will be buying the Octavia off skoda for about £12k and trying to sell it straight away for as much as I can get. The difference won't make up for the lower payments I would have made if I'd had it on PCH, though.

Financially, keeping the car would have made a lot more sense, but I wanted to get myself a new car and PCH seems to make by far the most sense right now. Just a shame I've had to have the 150bhp rather than the 190 because I don't want a bloody automatic.

According to carwow.co.uk, a current MK3 Octavia is both longer and wider than a Qashqai. :D

Just saying...

And no, I'm not particularly fond of them.

Oh, and my other vehicle (Ford Ranger) is rather large for a standard parking space too.

I agree as this is what usually happens...but that face lol.

This mk of octavia has certainly taken a bigger hit than the previous models.

However I remember in the late 90's where is was cheaper to buy new (monthly) than second hand.......it then went back the other way to secondhand was better.

No doubt this will repeat it's self again at some stage.

Are we still on the tail of the 2008-2011 recession with used cars. Not as many were registered, so used prices are high, making new seem a better buy.

This will reverse as new car sales have boomed for the last 3 years or so.

You've missed the important dimension - height. This is what attract families to the Qashqai, the perceived element of safety from being higher than most of the other traffic.

No, I'm well aware of the height. I just thought it was funny that someone was having a wee bit of a rant about oversized SUV's taking up more than their fair share of parking space (in the context of a thread mentioning the Qashqai), when in actual fact the Octavia hatch is bigger...

:)

Perhaps they're the future, like the craze for these 3 floored houses, smaller footprint but with the same or more space  :D

The higher driving position is a definite selling point of SUV's - especially for women.  When we bought the Yeti, my wife was much happier driving it than the previous car (Subaru Legacy Spec B) - as she could actually see where she was going :-)

By the way - if anyone does decide to buy their car at the end of a PCP with the intention of selling/trading it then please drop me a line.  I'm looking to buy a vRS Estate (TSI + DSG) to replace the Yeti

The height thing is a bit two sided.

Yes easier on your back putting a child in....but then child can't get out as its too high.

Also stability is a problem. Clip the kerb in a high vehicle and its more likely to tip.

Ok the Qashqai might not be as big as I thought, but a lot of SUVs are, and parking them is a problem, they often hit others also.

Well I finally made a decision, have done the deal and the Skoda Vrs is going in March to be replace by a Qashqai. I had a long good look at at keeping my Vrs but with at least 6 new spoilers in less than 3 years I could not put up with this as I know somewhere along the line the spoiler will go again and bubble or blister. Also may save my life as I have had 2 close calls, the Vrs is a powerful car for driving around town and the chance to be a smart arse and show off was all too tempting for me.So several weeks left with the beast and hello to a bit more sedate driving.
