Crack in Front Bumper

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I had an unfortunate incident where someone drove into the back of me and caused minimal damage to the back bumper. His insurance company has admitted liability and are paying for all repairs and hiring a car whilst mine has been fixed.

I have subsequently found a crack in the front bumper under the driver's side headlight that I had not noticed prior to the accident and there are no tell tale signs of someone reversing into me so without any evidence to the contrary I have attributed this to a jolt from the accident traveling through the car and cracking the front bumper at a stress point.

The accident happened on a roundabout where I was giving way to traffic and the car behind bumped into me. The speed was very low and the initial damage to my car appears to be some sort of bolt trying to push through my rear bumper.

The Driver's insurance company has rejected my claim for the front bumper saying that as I didn't hit anything in front of me the crack could not have been caused by the accident.

Does anyone know if it is indeed possible for the front bumper to crack from an accident in the rear of the car.

Thanks.

That crack originates from someplace under the headlight. Does the corner of the headlight look to be making contact with the bumper? Does the left headlight make contact at the outer corner? Could some other owners check their cars for the same?

so without any evidence to the contrary I have attributed this to a jolt from the accident traveling through the car and cracking the front bumper at a stress point..

If cars were this fragile they would self destruct every time you drove one and hit a minor road imperfection let alone a pot hole.

Its either had a parking knock at sometime or been like it from new.

id say its highly unlikely that was caused in the accident, its either a parking ding or some other defect or damage.

id get it looked at asap though as it looks like it may spread.

Agreed, I very much doubt this is related to the accident unless the shunt from behind pushed you into the car in front?

I guess you've been unlucky, being hit from behind and also having someone else knock the front of your car whilst parked.
