Ice on the inside of the windscreen

Featured Replies

This happened to me a while ago but it was my own fault.

I inadvertently left the passenger window open overnight on a very damp night. It took about a week to completely dry out!

Nowadays I use a dehumidifier type bag left on the dashboard. I can't remember what make it is but I followed a link on here about 6 months ago. It's a black bag with a colour circle in the centre, blue when good turns pink when saturated then microwave for about 3 mins. No problems now.

Partly because of this experience I specced a heated windscreen on my new Yeti, what a wonderful device it is.

I regret not speccing the heated windshield. And ACC.

I always thought the best way was to simply hit the demise button and the program would deal with the problem by pumping dehumidified warm air.......given time

Actually the "demise" button could be a very useful addition to the options list.

... the "demise" button ...

Check Rymans post #22. Could be used on "safety cameras" for one.

 The eyes start going before the brain.  Not by much, though.

Anyway - yes, nothing wrong with the concept.  A few years ago, someone here posted a pic of his bottom-row buttons.  He was/still is averse to blank ones and had very professionally added labels where appropriate - 'Ejector Seat', 'Rockets', 'Stealth Mode' or suchlike.  Anyone remember?

Sorry, Smokeyjo.  Back to topic.....

Think that was Johann (90000000000000000)

Using the air con/ climate control all the time seems to limit the amount of damp (air) in the car, also I don't sit in the car with the engine off for prolonged periods when I arrive, but get out promptly. I've not suffered ice/ excessive moisture on the inside of the screen so I suggest that there is a leak of some sort.

Its arrived and fits really well on the screen so now just need to wait for the next frost to try it out.

But that is just a sticking plaster, it will not fix the problem that is causing the condensation.

Yes maybe, but it only happens in frosty weather and several others on here have reported similar problems even with new cars. I cannot find any source of water ingress and none of the interior feels damp.

I suspect that just heating up the inside of the car just keeps the water vapour in the air as a gas and the cold windscreen condenses the vapour overnight. It only appears on the windscreen, not on any other glass, so maybe water vapour is rising through the screen heater vents?

This morning only half the windscreen was frosted and there was a thin layer of condensation inside exactly where the frost was on the outside.

If the screen cover keeps frost forming it may be the answer. I am prepared to be proved wrong but it seemed like a good idea anyway to save scraping.

Just a thought, how about checking the drain holes in the bottom of the doors.

I once drained half a door on my daughter's Ford Fiesta by just having a poke with a lolly stick.

Could it come from water collected inside the doors? Heavy rain, dodgy window seals (scraper list) and restricted drain holes may cause water to be entrapped inside the door. It need not be much water really, just a slant of water somewhere inside can give condesation. A frozen door lock may also be an indication.
