Blower motor

Featured Replies

Hiya guys I'm a new member here i just a bought a lovely Y Reg 2001 Fabia. It's my first Skoda & I'm well impressed with it. The only problem is the heater is not working on any of the settings (1-4). I've yet to check the fuses out so it may just be a blown fuse however if it isn't am i right in assuming the blower motor may have packed up?

Yes and no. You're correct that the motor may have packed up, but the failure could also be in the fan switch, or (if you can hear the fan running but get no air) the vent controls, or if you can get air but no heat a badly airlocked heater matrix or heat control stuck on full cold.

Thanks for the info guys going to have a proper look at it tomorrow. I have checked the fuses & somebody who owned the cat before had put a 15a fuse in the place where the 25a for the blower motor should be. The fuse had blown & melted the plastic on the fuse. I've taken it out but not replaced it yet. Doesn't appear to have caused any damage to the fuse box thankfully

No doubt Wino is the "go to man" on electrical problems, as he can read/understand wiring diagrammes, and he remotely identified problems on my car and advised checks to carry out which resulted in "root cause analysis" of problems I was seeing and asked the correct questions.

The fan does not appear to run on any setting however the 15a blown fuse didnt do it any favours lol

Melted seems to suggest that fuse failed due to old age ( same way a bit of string would fail pulling a load that needed rope), as origonal had failed and was replaced by a lower (wrong value). Point of interest is why the original failed in first place. Does motor turn ?

Replace the fuse with a fresh 25A fuse, turn the blower to maximum then switch on the ignition, if the fan comes on full speed then the resistor pack has failed short-circuit and is blowing the fuses, if not the fan motor or wiring have failed.

I've got a spare fusebox somewhere, with wires hanging out of it. If I can find it I'll investigate and potentially have some healthy wires/contacts I could send you.

PM me a reminder tomorrow.

I found it, after tidying my shed a bit!

I've extracted the two relevant wires/contacts, have taken a few photos which I'll pop up in a bit (gotta walk the dog).

Take one fusebox (this one's actually from a 9N Polo, but same enough I think), one Laser 3932 extraction tool, poke tool into holes above and below the contact you wish to remove while pushing the wire in towards the tool from the other side. Out pops the wire and terminal, undamaged.

Fingernail the two retaining thingies outward again before reinsertion.

Let me know by PM if you want these two wires, with a delivery address.
