Scratch and dent insurance

Featured Replies

I've been speaking with Briskoda friendly gapinsurance.co.uk to get a quote for GAP insurance for my Sportline. For reference (no affiliation) they have been great to deal with so far and their quote makes a mockery of what my supplying dealer quoted.  Happy so far...

I notice that they also offer scratch and dent insurance which looks appealing as I've had to shell out a few times to have 'mysterious' car park damage repaired.    They offer a few types of policy in terms of size of scratch/dent and also 1 or 2 panels to repair.

Has anyone else used this or a similar policy and what are your experiences, please?

Did purchase on current car - would probably not again - found it quite restrictive as to what they will and will not do. As far as can can remember you have a limit as to how many times they attend and a total claim value limit.

Recently had a "larger dent" needing attention, finished up using Autorestore who did a superb job.

For smaller dents have used a paint-less dent removal company - very impressed - I think is some form of magic they practice !!

There are good paimless dent removal guys out there who will take most dings out of any car for not allot of wonga the guy I use removed 4 car park dings for me on previous car for£65

you couldn't see them at all once done (you would have some form of excess to pay on insurance min£75.

Paint is only required in severe cases and then it's a body shop job anyway for the best results again ins exess poss £250 -£500

cash price will undoubtedly be cheaper

I'm lucky as a family member has a body shop of his own and was trained at bmw

ask around your local area garages etc

dent and scratch insurance may never be needed I just do the as and when option it's cheaper

hope this helps

Thanks both.

The policy terms indicate a max of 3 repairs per year (9 in total) no monetary limit on each or total number of claims and only £25 excess.  Quotes I got ranged from £154 for 15cm of damage on a single panel to £280 for 30cm damage over two panels.

Will need to have a think if it's worth it or not.

Speaking to a colleague I think he paid £500 for a policy with Audi but that was single panel and didn't include front bumper or roof.  Same overpricing as their GAP insurance.

Just been reading about this insurance but there could be issues with your main vehicle insurance as you have to disclose if you have made any claims, would this be a can of worms?

Quotes for dent work are ridiculous ,more than that they are ripping your eyeballs out and coming back for the sockets

you need to get friendly with your local garage those dent boys are having you at it,cash talks volumes in the motortrade the guy I use is the best in the north east and he don't charge anywhere near those prices
