160k miles on my taxi-engined tdi but still going strong.

 

I've been noticing an odd engine-related noise for the last few months.  I originally thought it was an exhaust blow but I've had the system checked.

 

It's hard to describe but "bass", "flatulent", "not knocking" and "follows engine speed" all apply.  It also seems noisier from the passenger seat.

 

Nothing else seems adrift - fuel consumption, exhaust (lack of) smoke, performance all seem unchanged.

 

Any ideas out there, please?
