Radio 2 Shortly

Featured Replies

Somewhen during the Jeremy Vine show currently on Radio 2 they are interviewing the Guy who trashes speed cameras

Show runs until 2 PM today (29/10/3)

The burning tyre over the GATSO technique (petrol in the carcasse) has been used a lot around Plymouth, but haven't seen any evidence of it in Exeter

There was one guy who angle-grinded a GATSO off at the base, on the M5 bridge, then dumped in the river Exe below... :D - That must have taken some guts to do.

right then who is up for some GATSO killing?

Hmmm I love The Smell Of Burning GATSO In The Morning!!!!

As I said once before,

A new motorists sport could be paintballing speed cameras with prizes for the most hits in one night

Never been paintballing before, can you fill the paint balls with anything else, I was thinking of that thick black paint you use for waterproofing on building sites

Stuart

Im sure I read somewhere that some plod force has put a CCTV camera up watching some speed cameras, because they kept getting modified :rofl:

whos watching the watchers ??

I have used a spring loaded paintball gun for some fun, it uses watery paint balls which wipe off and take about 3 weks to totally dry! I however didn't fire them at Gatsos! I know that there is a red light camera in Glasgow that has lots of Orange paint on the ground around it and on the camera base. The camera it's self however is squeeky clean. There quick to fix cameras when they get vandalised but not so quick when it's a bridge or bus shelter that gets vandalised.

I can think of something called Nuflex or Aquapol, but I reckon some nice piping hot felt roofing gunk would do the trick.

I like the paintball method, but I fancy using the 12 bore instead. :D

Sadly, the scameras are designed to withstand a shotgun blast. The "tyre and diesel" method would be preferable.

Hmmm - guess so - and pellet ricochet would be an injury hazard too. :(

Guess it's time for me to start carrying that gallon can of diesel again eh? :D

Maybe it's just me but from what I was told, Diesel isn't all that easy to light. I was told it's similar to Kerosine in that it only lights easily at pressure.

I think using petrol is too volatile - i.e risk of personal injury, and it will probably xplode if a lot is used. Diesel is hard to ignite - very hard, but there's must be a way...

Maybe only a dribble of petrol is needed, which lights the tyre, which then completes the task it was moulded for? :D - not speaking from experience, OK? - just trying to apply logic.

I heard the piece, and all I can say is what a prat he was. He was totally taken apart by Dunwoody MP (chair of the all-part select commitee for transport). She hit him with the death on the road figures and his response was basically " a 1% drop in road deaths isnt worth it".

What he should have said was that the drop in road deaths was to be welcomed, but that they werent all due to speeding...a point missed like an open goal.

Anyone listening to the show will surely have the impression that Captain Gatso is just another social vandal trying to justify wilful distruction of property.

I know I did.

Hmm...see this makes me suspicious. I know lots of people who are against cameras (myself included) and I've *never* heard anyone pass anything close to resembling that comment.

Makes me wonder who's paying the piper, if you catch my drift...

Rob.

Which comment is that then?

Sorry, bit unclear...the one about 1% drop in road deaths not being worth it... :)

Rob.

Sorry...

Well Gwyneth Dunwoody was replying with the figures that since the advent of speed cameras there has been a 1 % drop in the number of deaths on the road, for which they attribute to people slowing for the cameras.

Rightly or wrongly, he should have replied that speed isnt the only killer on the road ie drink driving, dodgy motors, tiredness, drug driving etc...but he didnt and came across as a fool.

On a personal note, I disagree with the wholesale use of spped cameras for revenue generation, but I agree with them for blackspots and more importantly traffic lights. However, I cannot agree with the distruction of said cameras, as I feel arguement and debate are the way forward..not direct action.

Exactly...and who would benefit from an irrational anti-camera muppet making a fool of himself in a widely publicised radio debate? ;)

Rob.

But he was supposed to be the spokesman for MAD.

Forgive my naivety, but I dont think even the BBC would get involved in a stunt of deception as that.( Well not since they were fooled by a guy pretending to be Phil Tailor after he had won the darts)
