Would you buy a Skoda again?

Featured Replies

Probably but would depend on price and what other cars are available for the same money in the VAG range.

  • When I started this post - I did say that I would not buy another Skoda for the reasons stated. As the year progressed, I did go to other dealers but got no satisfaction at all. My simple request

  • After running a Kia Rio pretty much faultlessly for 8 years and 120.000 miles I bought dads low mileage 2010 Fabia 1.2 elegance last year. It has a lovely engine but I don't like pretty much everythin

  • No. Skoda are no longer a budget brand for poor folks like me. I would look at a Dacia or Kia (because of the 7 year warranty) or Hyundai. I think VAG group need to catch up with the makers who offer

If the MKI Fabia 1.9TDi PD 100 Elegance was still available I'd have one today, the best Skoda ever built. Especially with a cheeky remap to 154.  #thevrsisnotandneverwasthebestfabia

Fun to drive, Quick and could be made quicker at low cost, economical, loverly driving position, roomy, a sleeper, looked good,

What more is there to say and Yes I've had two

to answer the OP's question. Yes. And I just have.

Third yeti just been ordered for myself, my wife is on her third fabia

Skoda need to come out with a new Fabia RS, or at least something with a fair bit more poke than the 81kw version. An Octavia is too big for my needs (not that it's that large).

I am on my third Skoda, worked through two Fabias and have still the second 2011 Monte 1.6 tdi 75, soon to have a remap.

we bought last year the Yeti 2.0 tdi,4x4 dsg edition.Absolutely love it,after just over 5,000 Kms it is loosening up nicely, only dislikes adblue and polystyrene underfloor stealing boot space, soon to be rectified by help on here.DSgG is superb, unlike the silly armrest which is a shame and easily could have been made better.

minor faults but an absolutely cracking car to drive.

Great cars - just a bit roly poly in the corners I thought, but nothing a decent suspension set wouldn't have sorted.

Once I'd let Superchips work their magic with mine, people were astounded just how quick it was...at the time about the best hot hatch would have been the EP3 Type R (which I went on to own) and the Clio 172/182. Genuinely, 2nd through 3rd / 4th it just used to annihilate the other hot hatches, was so much fun coming off a roundabout with one up your jacksie and just leaving it in a cloud of black smoke :D

I do miss the car, although the Type R was much better as a complete hot hatch package. Still, it couldn't do the fast thing and take you most places at 50+ mpg though!

Also, when I was looking for a new car to replace the Fabia, I test drove the 170PD Octavia vRS...when I put my foot down I honestly thought it was broken!! Such a shame, as they were really nice cars, but I couldn't justify the cost for the poorer performance.

7 years warranty is the way forward as by the time most folk have paid off a car 4- 5 years its usually with or without a bloom payment. So if you want to own outright its a catch 22 of no warranty at the end of 5 years....Our next car will likely be a monte carlo fabia (to replace the citigo), not heard good things about VW or Audi, Kias just look awful, and we need something after 1 owner around 8.5K to 10K max so it wont be new. Also that Emssions tax rule to think about on new cars.

this was part of the reason in 2015 I left the skoda fold after 16 years and 7 cars between me and the wife

3 year 60,000 warranty, I personally felt the cars were no longer the value for money they had been, VAG seemed to be removing the skoda quirkiness in design and turning then into VW clone boxes with none of the character

I was due to look at the mk3 fabia, but the sales staff ignore me, I went over to Hyundai and ordered a new i20 with 5 year unlimited mileage warranty as I preferred the styling, it had more kit and cheaper than the fabia, I changed that in November for a Hyundai Ioniq hybrid vehicle, which skoda have no equivalent and again it has a 5 year unlimited warranty and 8 year / 125,000 mile battery warranty

diesel emission control strangle there mpg, dieselgate don't help just locks customers in due to negative equity on their cars, the cars are bland and the interiors have not really improved in the last 5 years,

my wife changed to a Hyundai i10, then has changed back to a citigo as she likes the styling and interior

me no, I can't see me returning to the VAG fold

  • 6 months later...

Tricky question that. Had 12 Skodas since 2004 including Fabia, Octavias and three Superbs , the latest Superb being a 2016 SEL bought this year with 1950 miles on the clock.

In March at 4033 miles front disc(s) starting to pulse due to warping. Dealer reception said out of warranty as over 6000 miles or 6 months. Defect steadily got worse and eventually last week at 8700 miles had front discs and pads replaced by dealer I purchased the car from. To be fair to them they knocked money off the price by approx £90 as a good will gesture as they did not want to lose my custom.

I wrote to Skoda Customer services and they have actually phoned me this week wanting more detail and wanted to know more about the previous owner which happened to be the dealer I purchased it from.

Skodas thinking appears to be it is bad driving which is totally untrue and awaiting their reply to see if anything they are going to do about it as the condition of the discs was serious deterioration consistent with poor manufacturing quality.

On the strength of their reply will determine if a 13th Skoda will ever be parked on the driveway. There is some serious competition out there now but not holding my breath that it will end in a satisfactory way.

It is 6 months / 6,500 miles on some parts / manufacturing faults.

As to the discs and warping plenty get Skoda UK / Warranty Provider to assume the position and do not get away with the crap they think they can.

Says 'brake linings disc pads'.

Is that Brake lining, discs and pads?

Because it does not say brake linings, drums, discs and pads!  It appears to be the braking materials, not the discs and drums.

Thanks for info had not noticed that . Will post developments as they occur

Ah just noticed you bought a Dealers Demonstrator,

cheeky barstewards as they probably had it out getting Italian Tune Ups pre sale as the discs were getting cosmetic corrosion, and the sales and service desk and workshop employees know that well enough, seeing as they are open 7 days a week and sell plenty demonstrators and give enough

scored disc / worn disc advisories.

Yes, I have ordered my 5th.

I've had 2 mk1 Fabias (a 100bhp 16v and a Fabia vRS), 2 Mk2 Octavias (a 2.0l tdi Elegance and a petrol vrs that I've now owned for 9 1/2 years)

I am waiting for a superb sportline to be built.

The first 4 were all ordered from a dealer my family had known for 30 years, but they have now closed.

The superb I have ordered from my now local dealer as they are 5 mins away from my house, although if the previous dealer had still been open I would probably have gone there.

Liked Sportline but think no leather was a problem for us. Latest Superb SEL is great apart from brake issue. Average mpg 56.6 brilliant and better than 15 reg Superb L&K  which averaged 53 mpg. Euro 6 engine far better

  • 2 weeks later...

1.6 CR 105 psi 60k.

Had it for 2 years almost so far I had

  • injector failure which cost me almost £800
  • squeaky suspension bushes
  • the emission update which made it slower and louder.

Prior to the issues it was great and loved it, my gf loved it to since she has a 1.3 petrol yaris (which never broke in 8 years and 100k later, EVER!!)

I'm trying to run this car as long as possible but after it never a VAG car again.

Have now had communications with Skoda Customer Services and reached an amicable settlement. Have to say very attentive in negotiations and returns calls as agreed at times suitable to me

No.

I owned a Skoda Fabia Mk II & now have a Skoda Octava VRS Mk ii (facelift version). Best thing is they have passed MOTs with no advisories, & both I bought 2nd hand. Bad is that both have given me steering alignment issues. Before this, I had Japanese cars, & Fords which never gave me any problems with the steering. Since owning Skoda, this seems to be a common issue. Also the places I take it to cannot figure out what is causing the alignment not to be correct, & this is with Hunter equipment.

Also on the Fabia, before I p/exchanged it, there was a wheel sensor issue. Now with the Octavia, I suspect it has an oil consumption issue as the warning light came on sooner than expected even though I do low mileage, & yes the oil was low even though it had been fully serviced 10 months ago. Also had coolant sensor issues the dealership could not find (?). And of course ongoing steering alignment issues which might be my luck but spoke to someone else that had the same issues on their Octavia.

If I cannot get these issues solved, then I might go back to Ford which in the time I owned them, only gave me wear & tear problems as they were old cars anyway. Also I liked them more for their steering input which was much more direct. Rant over.

You should have a 2 year warranty on the car after the emissions update so surely the failure of the parts since the update should have been covered by VAG. Unless you bought the car with the fix already applied then I don't really know how the warranty works with post fix purchased cars. Also do you use premium fuel or supermarket fuel? I found my car runs best on shell, got 56mpg on my commute home today and averaging 47mpg over a tank.

The warranty claims still need to be approved and as my brother is finding out with his EGR failure and loss of power post fix they're still a bunch of ****s.

Premium Diesel has a higher Cetane rating than standard diesel,  that might be Shell V-Power Nitro,

Shell Standard diesel is diesel as is Supermarket Diesel it is not Premium in any way.

took it in for the injector failure, they fixed it and then applied the emission update. I was furious and so unhappy (still am). Screw their warranty my car is not what i bought 2 years ago. It's slow and definitely louder.....just makes me angry thinking about it i'll leave it there.

Also I always used Vpower+ and still use. Never used supermarket fuels.

Thats not good at all... what year and millage has your furbi done? I have stayed clear of the fix for this engine due to all the poor reports of how it runs after the fix. My last service i told them to not touch the OBD2 port with any type of update (mainly because the cars mapped) Sorry that its caused you so much anger and frustration... :(

No.  My Octavia vRS FL  was registered in March 2012; more than 15 months after a technical bulletin regarding  the outer side bolster of the driver's seat collapsing due to a broken air bag shield; yet my car was fault with a seat that later developed this (known) fault.  My driver's seat developed the fault when the car was 2 months out of warranty but three Skoda dealers and Skoda refused to sanction a repair unless I paid the full cost - over £300 .  I consider this not just a trim issue, but a safety issue.  If the airbag shield has broken what what happen if the airbag deployed - I assume the shield is there for a reason?  My first, and last, Skoda.

Surely thats a safety recall no? Sounds very un-safe to me!! Speak to skoda head office about that maybe and see if they can get you the funds to have it done for free?
