Shock! Complete stranger compliments my car at petrol station.

Featured Replies

FIlling up at the local BP last night a guy pulls up on the forecourt (not next to the pumps, just buying flowers  ) looks over at my car and said "I bet that goes well, mate"

In complete shock I listened as he continued to say "its a very nice looking car that, Skoda do make some nice ones these days - is it quick?" my reply was a simple "its about 220bhp, the limiting factor is getting the power onto the road"

This went on for as long as it took me to fill an empty tank, my car isnt even very clean at the moment, it has been pressure washed recently but thats about it.

The guy was driving a recent Mondeo diesel (same shape as ScoobyChris's but in silver/grey) and was aged around 40.

I was totally amazed, never had that before, even when I had an immaculate white Integra Type R

 Respect is due.

Only ever had people look at mine a little longer than normal in petrol stations but yet had comments about it. The only time I seem to get genuine chatter about it from admirers, is at car shows and the like. :)

Thought this thread was going to be about whilst test driving a Fabia vRS

yeah ive had the same thing happen with both my old mk2 golf and my A4. really strange when it happens :)

:rofl::thumbup:

Sheath thy claws! :D

I have had a few people comment on my nice fabia vrs. I came out for a ciggie at work one day to find a group of suited and booted visitors peering inside and having a good nose. they were very impressed. I often catch various groups of people who walk past, having a second look at it too.

It does seem very odd though, the only car I have done that too was the Aston Martin DB9 around the corner from where I am working at the mo.

Did this man have a white stick and sun glasses on? May of had a Golden Labrador to?

I thought we'd established I wasn't driving a Fabia ?

He was obviously a man of taste, buying flowers from a petrol station. :D

It will be interesting to see if my vrs gets more attention than Velma does

Here you go - it looks as dirty as this at the moment:

before.jpg

Had something similar happen to me the day I picked up my Octavia.... pulled into BP to fill up with diesel, and a fella wanders over to me and starts asking me questions about my car..... said he was thinking of getting one!

Couldn't help him much at the time cos I'd only owned the car for 10 mins  but I did point him towards Briskoda ;)

Perhaps its a clever ploy by BP to get people to frequent their forecourts ;)

I reckon with all the money they make from their over-priced (imho ;)) fuel they could afford to hire someone to go round doing that ;)

I might look into that as a career path.

I think Tesco's are trying to adopt the same sneaky method.

Went into one of there garages at 9.30pm last night, the simularly aged girl behind the counter would let me leave after paying, question after joke after general chit chat, I am too polite to just walk off.

Needless to say it didnt work, I sharnt be visiting that garage again.

All three of my current/previous cars have had attention in one form or another.

When I had my vRS, I;m guessing it was still a pretty rare site on the roads, because a lot of people looked at it with a slightly puzzled look on their face  Also when I went to the pistonheads meet, a few people commented on how they were impressed, and asked if it was chipped (it wasnt) which surprised a few more people.

I didnt have my Golf long, but I got one comment from someone I did a job for, and we got talking for ages about the mk2s. I also had another guy in a mk2 give me the thumbs up (despite the fact that his was so much better than mine).

The car that seems to get the most comments is the Clio - usually along the lines of "they're well quick those Clio Sports"
