  • VanDerMark gets Rossi's bike at Aragon.   They already gave Alex a few goes on the Tech3 last year.

Testing looking not so good for some of the aliens, Lorenzo and Rossi not really on the pace.

So can Maverick win the title on the Yamaha?  Will Marquez take advantage of the other top guys struggles?

Maverick would be a great new champ and is my favourite for 2017.

Perhaps Rossi was feeling his age a bit as it was his 38th birthday on the 16th Feb.

Still pretty close with a dozen within Maverick's time, should be a good year's racing and just hoping other series ie F1 and WRC are also close and provide as much entertainment as MotoGP did last year.  Still chuffed that Cal did so well last year.  Nice to see a non-Italian or Spaniard win for a change.

Motorsport have a pic of Maverick mid-corner in the current issue: If he hangs off much further he'll be needing shoulder and hip sliders!

Hes amazing. The old guard really need to watch out.

60+ degrees of lean...

2017.

1st timed session of the year.

Maverick from Marc and Dani by 0.6 and 0.9 seconds.

No-one else close, not even Jorge or Vale.

Gonna have to get used to the Spanish national anthem again and again...

FP2 somewhat different...

Scotty Redding fastest from Dovi, so Ducati 1-2 with Tech3 3-4.

0.7 off the best FP1 time, but Scott is 3rd fastest overall so far

Sam Lowes way off team mate Aleix again.

Great by Scott. Dukes have the speed in the last sector. Finales might have been quickest if he had not binned it earlier based on his times.

Lorenzo fails to make it straight to Q2. Crutchlow and Redding safely in.

Redding was lucky when his fairing snapped, that could have been very scary at full throttle.

Not so good for most of the aliens I have to say...

Great racing!

Rossi did well from 4th row to podium.

Yams rule!

Massive result for "wee McPhee" in Moto3 and points for Danny Kent as well in Moto2.

Great comeback for John after his awful Philip Island crash last year.

Lorenzo and Ducati? Is his situation now worse than when Valentino was there? It was slow then as well yes, but at least the GOAT wasn't getting destroyed by his team mate.

And given that the grid was decided on free practice, would anyone really claim there's qualifying/race evidence that Maverick and Vale aren't close to each other?

Really enjoyed Moto GP today, even though I only got home in time for the big race...

although I really think I shouldnt laugh so much whenever one of the bikes from my least favourite team somersaults through the gravel.

Fab Brit podium places again.

The Moto3 race was epic. As they usually are!

It may not last, and he's not the quickest at the moment, but the GOAT is leading the championship.

It may depend on what sort of rate Maverick and Marquez keep binning it at?

  • Author

True. Even Rossi lost the title last year because he fell off too often.

Rare old race when 2 of the aliens crash out.

No news is good news when ex-champ Nicky Hayden is still in a coma though.
