Compatibility issues of head units

Featured Replies

Hi:

I own a Skoda Octavia II from 2006 and I am thinking on buying a new head unit. My car have Maxidot but does not have steering wheel controls.

I have been searching for something with 2GB RAM and android, WiFi, BT, Radio, DVD and GPS.

Chipsets that comes with 2GB RAM are currently two: the Rockchip PX5 - RK3368 (octacore) and Intel Sofia 3GR.

There are a lot of brands that sell HU with those chipsets (Joying, Pumpking, Xtrons, Dasaita, Klyde, Omnice) but I am considering buying an Erisin unit because they have a local dealer in my country, which makes easier to deal with the manufacturer in case something goes wrong.

Erisin have two models that fit my needs: ES6405V and ES6698V, apparently no differences between those two units except the size of the display.

The problem is that these models are listed as compatible only for Volkswagen vehicles (and Seat) and I don’t see the point on what could be wrong with Skoda not to be compatible.

My guessing is that they only pay attention to the hole the hu goes in, in case of Skoda is wider than the rest of the vw group, being 258mm wide. They do not know that there is a fascia front plate (1Z0858069R2AU) that adapts the original radio (Stream) to the Columbus RNS510, which is around 218mm wide.

Also, I installed a hu before from Audiosources AS-7086G with no problems.

I do not know what incompabilities could I have, the hu does not need to communicate with the car, no steering controls, I don’t mind to have the information on Maxidot, I only need the power supply and the radio antenna.

My doubts are:

Does all those Chinese hu for the VW group have exactly the same front dimensions (except the ones specifically made for Skoda, as for example Erisin ES4699S)?

Does they have the same power supply connector or the connector is different between cars?
