Recommended tyre profile size

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Iv just bought my first Octavia VRS, a 2005 2.0TFSI. The tyres are all different makes and down to around 3mm of tread so I'm going to replace the lot soon for a matching set. She is currently wearing 225/40/18. Somebody has mentioned switching to a 35 profile. Is it best to stick to 40 or is there actually a benefit To a 35? Also, any recommendations on a good quality tyre? Happy to spend upto £100 a tyre.

Not any benefit for you or the car if you are going to have a smaller circumference with a 225/35 R 18 tyre on your 18's. Which you would be doing.

You would need to go to 19" wheels to go 35 profile of wide 18" 35 profile tyres, too wide really.

Thanks for the info! And cheers for the link - that's useful!

i think I'm going to stick to 225/40/18's

If you want to treat yourself go for a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric tyres. About £100 a corner and just about the best you can buy.

Cool thanks for that I'll consider them when I replace them. That's about what I'm happy to pay for a decent tyre!

I'll second that!!

Had the 2's and now on the 3's and they are fantastic! Avoid the Rainsport 3's as they are soft as an easter egg in the sun!!

They're exactly what I'm going to buy. Black circles seem to have them well priced at the moment so in a couple of months time I'll be getting them fitted. Unfortunate the cambelt and waterpump is the job to be done first
