Looking at Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hello,

I don't post much but always lurked :) and now looking at a VRS as my current car is too small. The diesel 1.9 PD seems to be the most reliable, gives good mpg and keeps on going. I've tried to find a buying guide on here but no luck, is there one? If not I'm guessing check;

Servicing every year/10k

Cam belt every 4 years/60k

Leaky doors,

Leaky rad

Console bushes

Anti roll bar bushes

Any other things to beware of?

Also found a very local one but its on 17" wheels with coilovers. I've always disregarded buying modified cars but its 114k at £1700 with FSH (or so the ad says!).

Any info gratefully received.

Rust around rear arches lower sill area.open boot and check number plate light area for rust also. Check electric window operation.and check for warning lights on dash.if you can get underneath check cv boots for tears.dont let a lowered bigger wheeled one put you off

Slipping clutch and noisy turbo!

Thanks, is it a good idea to budget for a turbo recon on a car over 100k miles? I'd rather buy the best car I can for my budget but if I'm looking at high milage cars is the turbo a potential issue?

In a word: Yes.

Over 100k you'll be wanting to prepare yourself for clutch, turbo and bushes. If you can find one that has had a recent clutch/turbo replacement then winner winner.

Hmm, plenty to factor in then :D

The alternative is digging bit deeper and going for something like this;

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201702072067349?sort=price-asc&onesearchad=Used&make=SKODA&radius=100&postcode=sg111ee&model=FABIA&price-to=4000&advertising-location=at_cars&aggregatedTrim=vRS&page=5

It depends on what type of life it's had. Mines on 100k but it spends 90% of its time with the cruise control on at 65-70mph going up and down motorways.

Make sure it has full service history and check when the cambelt and water pump were last done and you'll be fine. Don't let mileage put you off.

Chiming in,

I was in same boat, although I always wanted a Vrs as it's a long story of sentimental nature.... However,  I have had mk1 Escorts, Cosworths and puma's with turbo conversions and after putting the hybrid turbo and FMIC and clutch dmf etc Its one of the most enjoyable cars I have owned..  and far more reliable than anything else I have owned..

Get a nice clean example,  Dont worry about mileage too much if you are factoring in turbo clutch and dmf........  Just beware of the modding bug, because with not too much money I ended up with a car that was quicker than my stage 1 cosworth.

Happy shopping bud.

Ps Only other thing I could think of was the leaky radiator these cars get which is a ballacher of a job,  signs of pink crusty coolant will give it away.
