Scratched alloy wheel.

Featured Replies

After almost 1 year and I have put a 1 inch scratch on my rear offside alloy on my VRS.  Clipped a kerb as a car squeezed past me.  Not a massively visible scratch but what should I do? Leave it, should I treat it with something, or should I get it sorted by a repairer. Anyone use any particular company?  Any help gratefully received.  Thanks.

I'm assuming that you have the diamond cut alloys? ...and that you have damaged the diamond cut section?

If minor, 2000+ grit wet and dry soaked in water/washing up liquid - try to remove the scratch with very light pressure. Once smoothed, use polish to remove dullness.

If moderate cover area in clear nail polish to seal / prevent water getting under lacquered coat finish in the short term.

It costs c.£150 to get a diamond cut alloy stripped / repainted / diamond cut / lacquered.

Loads of companys can complete this task. Post where you live and someone on here will provide a recommendation.

The above post is great advice, especially regarding the sealing over the damage. Diamond cut wheels get "whiteworm" once moisture and dirt get underneath the top lacquer layer.

I've just had two of mine "refurbed" by a company close to work in Birmingham ... and subsequently had to go over there and get my money back.

Mine are the 19" Xtremes in black (230) and they (who shall remain nameless as they've refunded me, but they're not a massive name) did a horrendous job. Grit under the paintwork, lacquer overspray, not properly repaired etc.

Make sure you fully research anyone you use for repairs - and if they're diamond cut make sure they have the facilities to repair these too. Mine came back with scratches all over the diamond cut areas as they couldn't repair this section, but didn't bother to tell me beforehand.

Black sheep thank you.  It is a fairly minor scratch which is raised.  They are the diamond cut wheels.  So some wet and dry should do the trick. Glad I asked because I was going to leave it...don't want 'white worm' .  I will let you know how I get on.  Thanks again.

I have Golus 18' first owner scratched all of them on kerb. I asked for repair in one shop the say not wort repairing. It will never look the same as a brand new. So I learned to live with it.

Parents Honda diamond cut wheels got scratched, went to a local tyre and alloy repairer and he managed to polish them out. Great service, can no longer be seen!

My vRS had a little bit of alloy damage on it before I picked it up, I done quick fix repair this afternoon to protect the exposed metal, it doesn't look to bad for a 20 minute repair on the drive.

Will post a pic when the wife gets in.

Not really noticeable from a few feet away and will do until I get it properly sorted, rubbed down with 120 grit and brushed with lacquer
