My 230 is poorly ..................

Featured Replies

Bit of a grating sound at very low speed whilst turning Right. If you alter the turn the sound disappears. Grates ever so slightly whilst turning left.

Been to the dealers and the Skoda Master Tech came out for a ride in the car and he has heard the sound. The car has been up on the ramps to look for anything obvious, nothing showed up, everything looks ok, steering, suspention looks ok and everything is tight and secure so safe to drive. Car booked in for further investigation 06 April.

Could it be the Clutch type things on the E diff making a noise

Any ideas Folks ?

Try looking at the engine mounts and bolts. My old SEAT Altea made a grumbling sound when turning left and no mechanic could figure it out.... then a month later the engine mount broke and the engine fell sideways taking out the cambelt!!

Mine mad a similar sound a short while ago, turned out to be a small piece of road debris stuck between the disc and pad.

Wheel bearing? Had similar noise on another car.

I cant hear any unusual sounds from my 230 when turning.

If you turn off the radio and the air con you can hear it, slight grating sound mainly when turning right and at slow speed.

Garage have taken a note/date of complaint and says it's ok to drive.  If it goes pop they have to pay for it.

Could be your disc backing plates rubbing on the discs a little bit as you turn.

It's not Mrs G's new knee, is it?

Gaz

Take it to an empty car park and drive it slowly while someone walks alongside the car; it may sound completely different and more easily traceable, or even visible, from the outside. Have you fitted mudflaps to the front?

Brake disc backing splash plate too close to disc, had this on my mates Alpha Romeo and three garages couldn't find the cause. Worth checking.

Hi again

I tried to find the unusual noise, but with wintertyres still on the car, it was too noisy. In a couple of weeks summer tyres will be on. And it will be easier to hear unusual noises.

Update

Yesterday, I was out and about in the 230 and whilst pulling away on a slight incline you could feel a slight klunk on the clutch pedal.

Didn't use hill hold as soon as I stopped the traffic started to move away, brought the clutch to biting point, held it for a second accelerated and reseased the cluch fully. It happened as soon I began to move away and had not fully released the cluch ( I wasn't riding the clutch )

Could it be related to the turning problem ?

Qiuck update.

The car is in at the Dealers, they have had the car since Last Tuesday. ( 4th )

They have test driven the car and they can hear the grating niose but they have no idea at this point what it is. Every thing underneath at the front is tight, no play in any of the joints/suspention. Engine mounts checked all seems ok.........

They are thinking it might be a drive shaft problem. Skoda Technical are now on the case

Watch this space.

Is it the right hand side that the noise comes from? Mine has a slight noise when on full lock too, been in and out dealers and still no joy. Now out of warranty and sharked so cost on me if it ends up a driveshaft

Yep, mainly whilst turning right but I does it now and again when when turning left

At least Skoda are looking at it, hope they do not do what Ford did with me.

On my Fiesta ST the senior techs told me because they couldn't find the actual cause of the clunkink/notchiness of my steering problem it was deemed a "characteristic" of the car but only my car and not the Fiesta range or any other ST, so just live with it and stop putting your steering on full lock when reversing into places!

Good luck

The grating sound is when you turn the wheels ever so slightly and at slow speeds. I can't hear it at speed but maybe it's road/tyre noise drowing it out and theres no feeling of it through the steering wheel. If you come to a stand on and Incline and hold the car on the clutch and pull away it also makes the grating sound as you start to move then all seems fine.

I've got the same issue on my 230, currently in with the dealer who say they can't replicate the sound. Going to take them for a drive on Thursday morning and let them have a listen.
