My 230 is poorly ..................

Featured Replies

If 220 TSI and TDI VRS owners don't have this grating noise, have you tried looking on the Golf GTI forums for similar problems affecting Performance pack 230 Bhp GTIs, possibly electronic diff associated, i.e. is the steering rack different when specced with the diff and is it only with 80-100% lock?

Any news on this please

Not yet sorry.... There's a grating sound whilst driving straight as well which they think is due to rust on the outside edge of the front discs, so want to replace those first and see if that has any effect on the other sound. Currently arguing with them about who's going to pay for the discs but will update further when any progress is made.

They have fitted a new CV joint O/S/F noise still there, back to the dealers Tuesday to try and get it sorted.

Interesting.... I'd wondered about the CV joint. I had a similar sound in my BMW 123d which turned out to be play in the rear wishbones - replaced them and problem solved despite it sounding very much like it was coming from the front of the car. Fingers crossed they sort it mate and please do keep us updated.

Interesting.......... I think the power steering is noisier than my previous vRS's.... But I've not had any issues like yours with mine.. touch wood.

I'll certainly tell you the out come, The Master Tecckie at the dealers has been out in the car with me, he's heard the noise ( thats good ) and he seems to think it's coming from the Front offside. I think there going to replace a part on the other end off the drive shaft ( gearbox end ) and possibly the front o/s wheel bearing. I'll know more Tuesday.

* Quick update *

The 230 has been at the Menders all this week. They have replaced more bits, wheel bearings, cv joints but it's still making the grating sound.

They have a bluetooth listening device fitted to the car and they have sent recordings of the noise to the Skoda technical team.

After talking with the service manager at the menders they are now thinking steering rack or even the gear box. The noise seems to occur only when the car is been powered forward ( not free wheeling )

Theres no 230's in Meteor grey with a Pan Roof to swop with plus I don't really want a  the squinty eyed version, unless they gave me the 245.

Auric, I feel your pain. Good luck & hang in there. It'll come good in the end!

As a fellow pan roof owner, I totally understand why you don't want to swap and lose that option!

:-/

I have tried to find if this is on mine. But cant hear that noise here.

sorry to hear this isn't fixed yet.

have you tried just driving the crap out of it?  sometimes a good hard pasting is all that is required (it'll either fix it or break it..)

i'm off to monaco for the weekend in my 230 - guessing somewhere around 1800 miles over a long weekend - we may be driving it quite quickly from time to time..  poss need new boots when we get back :)

I see four eyes in your future in fact, a meteor grey with two sets of black eyebrows top & bottom, you could name it "Joe 90"

Rejection is coming soon

After a bit of argy bargy mine's in the garage and they're replacing front and rear discs and pads FOC.... Not sure if this will fix it, or if it does, if we have the same issue, but will see what it sounds like tomorrow when I pick it up...

* Update *

Skoda now want to fit some Drive shafts from a similar car to see if it solves the problem. I've told them if it does work I don't want second hand drive shafts on my 230. Failing that if it don't cure the problem there thinking a new gear box or even a new e-diff.

Never in a million years, if I reject this car, which I hope I don't have to, my next one will have Jaguar XF R on the boot or something along those lines

**  Friday Update **

So the saga continues.  New drive shafts ( both sides ) are being fitted Monday. If that fails to cure the problem they want me to take the car and see if the problem gets worse or it gives up completely. The menders are going to give me there word ( in writing ) that if anything drastic happens they will take full responsibility.

Further update Monday, watch this space.

?

Have you got anything in writing from Skoda UK the Importer and Warranty Provider on what they intend doing to be sure the vehicle is Fit for purpose and of merchantable quality, and why a 'Fully Trained Factory Technician' is not inspecting the vehicle and possibly having it transported to VW Group Workshops so that Skoda CZ can know fully what the issue is for dealing with others vehicles in the coming years.

No nothing in writing yet George, I'm letting them fit the new drive shafts on Tuesday ( 6th June ) and I'll take it from there. They seem to want to throw parts at it at the moment but I'll find out more next week. If this dosen't clear the fault I'll be onto Skoda UK. I'm paying for something which I can't drive. In total they have had the car about 4 weeks on and off

Don't suppose you have a pnone number/name I could speak to.  I'd phone Skoda CC but I think my persuit of information will be limited.

Thanks AG

It it's mechanical it can be fixed.  Stick with it Andy.

Mine had a creak on the OSF.  Skoda replaced both drop links, under warranty.  Problem cured.  So they can get it right.  Yours is, frustratingly, taking a bit longer.
