Is there room for a dog in the hatchback?

Featured Replies

Well the difference is obvious, the only dimension that is different, is what makes a hatch so much nicer to look at! :D

Someone likes to spoil their dogs.

Is there anyone out there who doesn't??!!

We get people coming round with the express purpose of spoiling ours. Visiting us is just something they do while they're passing...!

We wouldn't go giant dog e.g. great dane, but may go as big as a smaller labrador (say 30Kg)] or will I find myself faced with the prospect of having to trade in my beloved vRS if I plump for the hatch?

We have three medium sized dogs - Two Collies and a 20kg Working Labrador.

The main reason I'd suggest an Estate, that doesn't seem to have been mentioned so far, is that even the most agile of dogs can slip/catch and so hurt themselves jumping in/out of a hatchback. The lower sill on Estates are far safer. Also dogs do get older, so will thank you for this later on, especially if you need to heft 20-40kgs of cuddle-bunny in and out...

I have a hatch and fairly large border collie, I just slide the parcel shelf into its little holder and he uses a ramp to get in and out

Thanks guys. I think either body style is fine, in the end I went for the estate. Whilst it's a tenth down on 0-60 time, I can't help thinking I made a good decision as since I started this thread my father has become dependent upon a wheelchair and I now have a baby on the way.

I love this car sooooo much

Well said Ttaskmaster. What else are dogs for?

A good dog crate is the best thing you can buy for your estate and dog!

We bought a safe dog crate which had built in crash protection for the mutts...your car stays cleaner too as the dust and fur collects on there instead of your upholstery.

VRS4011, what model crate is that please?

Glad an estate was sorted.....It has to be better for the dogs simply as less risk of them banging their heads on the rear glass, no?

Firstly, huge congrats on the new arrival!!

Oh, and good luck with the baby too! ;-)

PS FWIW the Estate is the cool choice looks-wise - it will grow on you.
