Show Us Your Rear Diffuser For VRS Combi

Featured Replies

I'm kind of thinking to replace the rear diffuser on the VRS estate, I did watch the hollowman video on YouTube & it seems pretty simple

I've been looking at this Rieger version

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292062886954

Already in gloss black & ready to fit B) I have  also looked on Superskoda's website but they don't seem to have the exact same one as the Rieger.

Superskoda has this stick on version (all I could find that looked similar to the Rieger)

http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/OCTAVIA-III/Octavia-III-rear-bumper-center-diffusor-Martinek-Auto-GLOSSY-black

But think I prefer the Rieger style, has anyone got any pictures of either of these fitted to there VRS estate & if you have the Rieger version, is it just a simple unscrew (old) & re-screw the (new) so to speak, its it secure as the factory one & is it prone to marking easy if on standard (OEM) springs setup.

Thanks.

@BATVANVRS - I fitted the Reiger one to my (hatchback) 230 last weekend. Sadly I don't have any pictures (yet), but can attest it was an easy job - no lifts / jacks etc. required.

It was a simple job to remove the OEM one (torx screws + a trim removal tool / bit of pulling), and put on the Reiger one. The Reiger kit provides you with 12 x 10mm spacers that go in-between the diffuser and the holes for the Reiger screws (which are Phillips, not Torx), which you can add or remove accordingly.

______

EDIT: to answer your Qs...

- Yes, simple unscrew old, re-screw on new one

- Very secure indeed (strong 'wiggle' test conducted)

- Can't say at this stage as got the matte black one, and has only been on a week. But the quality of the plastic it's made from is very decent. I am also currently on standard springs; still provides heaps of clearance.

______

Two words of warning - 1) If you don't have / want a removable panel for a tow hook, specify that upon buying. 2) The only niggle I had was removing the little yellow warning sticker that came with it, as the glue on it seems to be made out of some horrendous stuff that doesn't remove easily...

Other than that (and as you similarly have the TSI, and so don't need the additional TDI joiner pipe), it's easy to fit and looks good (IMHO).

I would 100% go for the Reiger over the one on SuperSkoda - both for looks and quality. Will try and get a photo up ASAP.

@Ads230 thanks for the advice & pointers  glad to hear it is a simple job.

Where did you purchase your Rieger from?

A few pictures would be great mate, as the only thing I would really like to see! Is the contrast between the rear diffuser & the exhaust tips, as I sprayed my exhaust tips last year (black, like the 230) & would really like to see if the gloss black rear diffuser would look good against it! or if the matt black version would look better!

The gloss black version would go well (contrast) with my rear bumper boot protector but then it might not contrast so well with the black exhaust tips! Where as the matt black probably will look better (just like the OEM diffuser)

A lot of your answers to my questions has helped me decide that I definitely want the Rieger rear diffuser B) Just now need to decide on what colour.

In a meeting now, but please hold and I will have pics for you soon ;) ...and the answer to your questions also. But get the Rieger - pics don't do it justice. I saw it on a car on a shop here and just went and order mine after (glossy black)

So...

Thanks guys for all your help B)  really appreciate it, there's no rush for the pictures, when you guys can.

Definitely going to purchase the Rieger version, just a matter of gloss or matt black, matt black will go with my exhaust tips & worst case it wont show up any marks (if I'm unlucky to get any) where as the gloss black will definitely stand out & will contrast with my boot protector.

Decisions decisions...

This is just my personal opinion, but glossy black doesn't work well with the black matte exhaust tips.

I think they have a carbon wrapped option for the Rieger diffuser also, so maybe consider that?

IMHO, the glossy black looks awesome and fits with my 19" black xtremes, but I also have chrome tips exhausts and a white car.

This is not my car, but it is the one I saw that made me settle on the glossy Rieger - and the boot protection is on the shortlist of next purchases, also in Glossy black:

Yes I have to agree about the matt black exhaust tips won't match with the gloss black Rieger diffuser but I could always re-spray the exhaust tips (gloss black or black magic)

The only thing that I would hate about the gloss black rear diffuser would be if it gets scratched or marked, the boot protector I have is in gloss black & even thou it is very nice, if you do get any scratches or marks on it, it will annoy you (OCD) But then a bit of polish will sort most of that out.

This is now making me think to choose the finish of a matt black Rieger rear diffuser as it would probably look like the factory (OEM) diffuser & suit the matt black exhaust tips.

The carbon option they have is actual carbon dipped? rather than wrapped? It does look nice & would probably suit the matt black exhaust tips better than the gloss black diffuser? Picture attached below.

s-l1600.jpg

Either way any colour option (gloss, matt or carbon) I think we still look good even with the matt black exhaust tips, as thinking about it, the gloss black will actually separate & break down the colour differences between the contrast of different things/areas on the back of the car, so its easy to see the differences.

But now saying that! :D  the gloss black Rieger will look stunning, the matt black will blend in with the exhaust tips & the carbon will still look stunning but might be a tad over the top in-terms of the look/finish.

The carbon definitely suits the grey colour Vrs, would probably look decent to on my race blue?

1) Matt black will blend in with the exhaust tips.

2) Gloss black will break down colour of the rear (so exhaust tips will still be noticeable) but will blend in with my boot protector & rear black magic Skoda badge.

3) Carbon will be like the gloss black in-terms of breaking down colour etc but I have nothing carbon on the Vrs )only on the inside from factory)

EDIT: I know its hard to tell from the pictures below but the last picture shows the exhaust tips quite well & even thou they look a little bit glossy, there actually in-between glossy & matt! so definitely either gloss black or matt diffuser will actually contrast very well I think?

But really would like to hear peoples opinions

Looking at your car, and mind you - your opinion is what you should go with - if it was mine, I would still go with Glossy Black:

- There is the badge

- There is the boot protector

- The exhausts would not look that out of place

...all failing, you can always paint the exhaust tips later ;)

@Jaco2k - I have the white 230 hatch, and the only thing that put me off the glossy one was there there is a new-ish Mercedes near me in our car park, and the stock glossy diffuser/rear bumper on that looks horrendous IMO.

Yours, however, looks grand! - I just prefer matte things, and also like @BATVANVRS says, was really worried about scratches etc as I'm constantly putting bikes / goods / other things in the back, and driving about round gravel-type areas.

As an aside, can you put boot protection on the hatchback variant? Looks good... although my next thing is chucking on OEM mudflaps, so it may have to wait.

BATVAN - re: purchasing, I got it off On-Line Auto Sport shop - eBay but called the bloke directly (Ian - +44 (0)1543 252010) who was really helpful, and specified exactly what I wanted. Arrived like 4 days later, in great condition. Would highly recommend from there if you want to do it.

With the matte version, it is possible to sand and spray it to an even darker black if you wanted to... so there is that option. I guess it just goes down to personal preference really. Gloss or matte, it's a great piece of kit and finishes off the VRS III look off well.

Well, we will find out soon enough, because I have been doing exactly that since I put mine in and it is covered in dirt - maybe I will make a "horror" picture for the fans of clean cars to show what mine looks like right now ;)

...either way, I have the same thoughts, but worse case scenario, it is just a case of pulling it out every now and then, respraying and throwing it in again ;)

Sweet that is the same company I came across on ebay, will give Ian a call towards the end of the week  I like the idea of actually buying the matt version & giving a sand n spray yourself, quite a good idea (Black Magic) B) but could always try it on the Vrs first as matt & then if I decide I didn't like it, could always spray it

Yeah exactly. I've not sprayed mine because I'm lazy I didn't have time, but there's always possibility of removing it and doing it yourself at any point. The 'Hollowman' video you watched covers that pretty well, although - unless you're fluent in German - there might be some translation required. But he does cover off the effects that can be achieved for a gloss / satin / matte finish.

I'll put up a photo of my hatchback on here / generally when I get around to doing a project thread, as I'm sure I'll want to take it off and jet-black spray it at some point.

If Steve doesn't mind B) as per a topic on Briskoda, looks as if he has a gloss black Rieger rear diffuser & black exhaust tips.

Nice Exhaust too B)

Well guys , just spoke to Ian @ On-Line Auto Sport shop - eBay 01543 252010 & after umming & erring on what finish to purchase, I decided to go with the gloss black, purely to suit/tie in with the boot protector, Skoda Monte Carlo badge & the exhaust tips shouldn't look out of place. (Hopefully)

Ian @ on-line did say exactly the same as Ads230 regards the matte finish that you can always sand n spray it a colour of your choice, which is probably a very good idea but then its getting the time to do it & then buying all the bits n bobs that's needed to do this. (so will cost a little bit more) The time factor would be more of an issue for me personally if I'm honest, as I could easily do the spray work myself but I would have to wait for the summer time in-order to do that & I really don't want to wait till then if I'm honest.

After seeing Steve's car (h3srr) above with black exhaust tips & the gloss black Rieger rear diffuser that kind of made my mind up.

The other brands of rear diffuser just don't seem to cut the mustard, the Milotec for the Mk3 don't look right & even the ones on Superskoda just don't seem pleasing to the eye or tie in nicely compared to the Rieger version.

The Rieger rear diffuser is definitely the way to go when looking for a rear diffuser without a doubt.

Will take around a week to arrive, I will post up some pictures etc...& hopefully get a friend of mine who does vehicle tinting & wrapping to add some clear protection film on to the gloss black diffuser so I won't have to worry much about scratches or marks but if it happens then it happens.

I want to thank everyone for there time, assistance, opinions & just general forum help out. B)

Lets keep this thread alive for anyone who is thinking about a rear diffuser from any type of brand to post up there pictures & basically show them off, feel free at anytime guys n gals to show us your backside :D hopefully this can be a thread like the "post your Mk3 octavia photos" so it should serve a purpose for anyone thinking to do this.

Hi BATVANVRS

 Glad you like it.

Steve

I really fancy the Reiger one but that ebay link isn't working

I'm also torn between the carbon and the glossy now as my boot protector is carbon fibre from rearguards!

How much was the Reiger one?

I'm not sure how much the carbon version is but you would be better off speaking to Ian on the details above

The Reiger diffuser in gloss black is on my list of purchases.

Was unsure about the bumper protector, but after seeing photos of both fitted, they compliment each other.

Gloss black works well on Candy White, especially with the Black Design pack.

I think you can get the boot protection for the hatch from here:

or

& at the bottom of the rearguards page, you can choose the colour finish.

I'm fitting the genuine cup edition diffuser to my wagon and get rid of that massive rear reflector
