Washed the Citigo today and decided it may be time for a warranty claim.

What do you think????? (Car is six months old this week).

Thats pretty poor for a newish car,4 new centre caps I think!.

Run it back to your dealer, moan a bucketful and he should replace those for free without objection I would have thought. That would be my first port of call. I wonder if others have had similar probs as they do look a bit flimsy.

Good luck.

I'd wait a bit until the weather settles down for the spring/summer. Then make a claim.

Terrible, usually caused by highly acidic wheel cleaner used by dealership valeters being left on too long. Stress you have only ever used pH neutral wheel cleaner and remind them it was their demo for a while so would have been done by their staff.

Good luck!

Looks a bit like the 'white worm' that Yetis used to suffer from. I had all my badges replaced, no problems, a few years ago.

Instead of acting like a belligerent child and throwing blame about you could just show them to your dealer, make them aware of this issue being a commonality and ask for them to be replaced under warranty.

Outside influences aside - your car is 6 months old and the chrome should not be showing signs of blemishes at such an early age.

Mine are the same. Will bring it up at the next service, along with the poor radio reception

A corroded Aerial base will no doubt be the cause there.

Poor radio reception seems to be a common fault. Is it usually down to the type of corrosion mentioned above or a failed amplifier in the base itself?

Where does the corrosion occur? Where the whip screws in or on the electrical connections (presumably at the base of the base between the roof panel and the headlining)?

The base lets in water and corrodes the circuit board thus ruining the amplifier

If you are using hand car wash sites then these will not help the corrosion to the center caps

Many are well known for 'watering down' industrial brick cleaner...... yes used to clean carbon deposits on buildings..... not cars.

Goodluck with the claim

The luck part is only which employee you get that tries panning you off.

Skoda CZ know they sourced crap caps, Skoda UK the importer does so just tell them not to mess you about just get 4 ordered or out of parts and if they want to send the bad ones off for scientific analysis they can.

Or

they can go look at Used Cars outside that they wash daily and see if they are going the same way.

No I've only ever washed the cars myself... Neither has been to a car wash or been washed by the dealer.

I use Bilberry Acid Free Wheel Cleaner or ph Neutral car wash on the wheels when washing the cars and the Superb has the same new style centre caps which don't have this issue and have been on the car around two to two and a half years now.

Unless a "non acidic" wheel cleaner or car shampoo is specifically declared to be pH neutral the it will be caustic (alkali). Caustic solutions can certainly cause the "white worm" corrosion often seen on the chrome parts of wheel centre caps.

I find that caustic cleaners are very clingy and need to be rinsed well to remove them. I use Autosmart Smart Wheels diluted 4:1 on our BMW and Skoda. Both have chromed centre caps and I have had no issues yet. FWIW I used to use Valet Pro Bilberry but IMHO Smart Wheels at 4:1 dilution is even better than Bilberry at stronger dilution ratios.

Auto Finesse Revolution Wheel Soap is a good one to use on a coated wheel :)

I've heard EZ products are amazing quality. They're not too expensive either.

I've not tried any myself yet though.
