Coming days apparently

not much of an incentive unless it's an old banger

If this had happened in say 2 years time when we were out of the EU then VW would be getting slapped with lawsuits and paying out to individuals in the UK just like they are the USA, it's only because we come under their umbrella that they are getting a chance to fix it and clambering to rectify their f..k up and we have to allow them, if you don't allow them as an individual now will you have the right to in 2 years time retrospectively sue them under new UK law that could change in line with USA emissions the way London is going, maybe this is why their a.se is twitching.

Any car that has had an emission defeat device now has to lower those emissions in line with what the manufacturer stated, how do you reduce that, by reducing the amount of fuel burnt or making it more efficient, either way this is going to reduce power, there is simply no way that a car will be exactly the same before and after, the average Joe might not notice but I am damn sure most of the tuned in people with built in bottom dynos are going to tell straight away, the ones who say it's fine or the same after are just ignorant or self blinkered to the technical side of things.

You know the ones who will bump their gums at parties saying how they are helping the environment by doing the right thing while not realising they have bent over to allow VW to right the wrong they did and wipe off a big lie without as much as a sorry.

Is that the argument they give the children's hospital doctors?.

perhaps they could fairly easily quantify a life .

Man plans on colonising Mars but can't fund urban air quality........strange priorities

TFL has spent millions on it already

The diesel exhaust pipes are the fundamental problem, I would have thought.

In York all of the Monks Cross park and ride buses are 100% electric and have been for a couple of years now.

So it is possible to do. I suppose you just need a big enough fleet of buses to be able to manage their charging time effectively. I think they charge pretty quick (you should see how thick the charging cable is!)

There are more and more taxis moving to Prius and similar hybrid vehicles too. I think hybrids are the sweet spot at the moment. Clean around town where they spend more time switched off in traffic but with the convenience of fueling up with petrol not having to charge.

Mother in law had her Golf 1.6 TDI convertible done just before she gave it back.

Developed a lovely clattery sound as I've heard reported elsewhere online. She also lost several MPG (she commutes 100 miles a day so has a nice idea of what she usually gets).

Like I say she's handed it back now (due to a change in job) and she's now bought a petrol as she's doing much less mileage.

Seems like the Pistonheads graph was right, you need to rev it more........and more frequent regents as well from what I've read.

and more frequent regens

So a bit more like a Euro 6 diesel

I don't think so

Adblue enables more power and economy and deals with the NOx post combustion.

A lot of the Euro 6 1.6 TDIs don't use adblue.

Interesting

How do the control the combustion temperatures?.

I was thinking about the 2016 Euro 6 Octavia 3   2.0 TDI I had. No Adblue, active regens every 100 miles.

Agree with you though that SCR and Adblue should give scope for improved efficiency.

Not completely sure on this but I think it is through lots of EGR

Oh dear!

That will explain the sudden increase in EGR and other problems post "fix" then!

Clean air out the pipes at the expense of the engine running clean and actually lasting!
