Hidden upgrades

Featured Replies

On some of my past cars there have been hidden and secret upgrades already built in to the car but not activated - usually because they're reserved for higher spec models or optional upgrades, but in reality required nothing more then a fuse inserting in the fuse box, a simple connection of a wire, or two buttons pressing together etc. For example my previous Mondeo didn't have footwell lighting (this was only available on the top spec models), but when I looked under the dash there was bulb holders already in place, so I inserted bulbs and they worked perfect. Likewise with heated washer jets that simply required a fuse placing in the blank fuse slot etc.

Are there any known hidden features like this on the Superb (ie that don't require software intervention), or cross-platform upgrades (eg VW parts fitting on the Skoda etc)

Would dearly love to know how that's activated, simply because it's there and I like toys.

Went to an independent garage (specialising in race-prepping VW Group cars) with VCDS but couldn't find it! Grrrrr.... Mind you, we had very little time. I'll pop in there again at some point.

Not that I know of without VCDS coding, but others may know better. We're a bit limited on the coding front with our stock SELs as we don't generally have the front camera required for traffic sign recognition etc...

Hi,

Just been looking on you tube-- seems its not being released here till next year ( or do they mean this year ? ) BUT you need a reversing camera & the the trailer assist control as well -- bit more than plonking a fuse in i am afraid !

david

Well, no. The whole point is that it’s already there (if indeed you have the camera; there is no special control as far as I can tell). It’s just that it’s hidden!

Unfortunately, the chap has not answered the how-to questions posted.

But it just goes to show the point the OP made: this is clearly a cross-platform feature that can be unhidden. And, after all, you could also argue that if you’ve bought the spec and features required, you’ve also bought and paid for this one.

To clarify whad i was referring to ,--

At 2.13 he shows the control on the door of the car for reversing.............

@FloatingBrick

don't expect too much,
even adding safety bulds in rear doors requires extra controller modules -
100+ € for each door :(

i have heard some VW's diesel engines has Webasto external heating system installed, but without user interface.
it can be tested by start and stop engine when themperature less than 5 degrees,

auxiliary heater will continue work fror ?? minutes and that can be heard
