Worried about buying a 2010 Fabia VRS!!

I noticed that too, I presume that's cos they have a yellow 11 plate for 8.5k. Didn't realise it was that over priced though! I know Skoda dealers would be more but not by that margin. Think I'll start looking elsewhere.

Out of curiosity do the Seat Ibiza and VW Polo have the exact same engine?

How about this one? Only 60 miles away from me.....

If I was buying. That one would be somewhere near the bottom of the pile as I can't stand that colour seat and  much prefer the chrome grill and silver lights over the black ones but that's my own personal preference. Why I say hard to come by lol.

Furbytom and others had new standard CTHE on the dyno and had 185 bhp or more 190bhp not uncommon, but then so do some standard CAVE.

Best avoid a CTHE built before summer 2013 as some were not sorted out, or look for one that has proved OK or many had a replacement engine because some early CTHE have had engines replaced.

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/357839-fabia-vrs-estate-rolling-road-run

There are other Dyno / rolling road threads for CAVE / CTHE if you do a search.

SEAT fitted the revised engine / engine management in the Ibiza months after it went in the Fabia.

They lowered the Co2 g/km over the CAVE but early 'Engine Managements' still needed updating,

SEAT, SKODA, VW, AUDI never bothered changing the Official Power Outputs in 2012 / 2013 on.

Hi

 my first post..

Now I'm worried !! I have a Scirocco 1.4tsi 160hp year 2010. In January 2013 has a new engine. This new engine has already made 60.000km and without oil consumption. I use 5w30 504.

Do you think I have a good engine?

Welcome.

The 1.4TSI 160ps Twinchargers had the same issues sometimes which is why it needed replaced but if your engine is still good i would not worry,

If you are changing the oil sooner than at 15,000km intervals it would do no harm to use 5w40 fs (VW502 00)

Have the spark plugs been changed since you had the new engine fitted?

If so how did they look when removed?

Heavyhand85,

Same engines and things to check out,

First versions from 2009/10/2011/2012 Polo GTI has battery in the Boot, Polo, Cupra & A1 (185ps) twinchargers have 215/40 R 17 Tyres as standard, had no spare wheel as standard, and they are all heavier than the Fabia vRS (The official weights of the sister cars were changed later to show the real kerb weights.)even if you leave the 25kg Weights on the rear crash bar.

So Skoda sandbagged the Hatch ( the front losses traction under acceleration.)which is why the official figures showed worse for the cheapest car.  VW Engineering, Vorsprung Durch Technik, if in doubt cheat.

Every manufacturer in the world is using less paint, thinner glass, less sound deadening to cut weight and emissions, leaving out spare wheels and the VW Group make Skoda Design & Manufacture Weights to bolt to a rear crash bar instead of fitting the correct rear suspension & having the cheapest car with the low Co2 and quicker than the more expensive cars.

*The Skoda's can not have a tow bar fitted legally for towing.*

Nice, enjoy.

The Stage 1 map should have sorted out any crap Map / Engine management VW had on your ECU.

Should I worry about my injectors? The car is from 01/2010

i use only fuel premium 98

I have a 2010 (60 Plate) CAVE engined car.

Touching wood, it seems to be a good one.

Uses a little oil, I'd estimate around a up to a litre every 2500-3000 miles, maybe less than a litre actually

I try to use Tesco Momuntum when I fill it up, which is every week as I do a fair bit of mileage in it ( 80 ish a day, Mon-Fri and then whatever at a weekend)

I have the plugs changed every 5k and service every 10k at my local trusted VAG specialist. (I'm sure they put Quantum 5w30 in it, but is it worth using 5w40?)

So far so good.

The mk2 fabia vrs is a car id avoid like the plague.

So many documented problems.

Id never be able to enjoy it id be waiting for the inevitable to happen.

Much more reliable cars out there

What other cars? I'm struggling to find anything other than Fabia/Ibiza/Polo that offers what I want. Good MPG, quick and cheap on tax. I understand I want a lot but it's what the Fabia offers me.

Besides the oil consumption issues on some of (or most of) the Fabias, what other documented issues are there?

Burnt valves , loss of compression , spark plugs turning to ash in the cylinders also breaking up and taking the cylinder with it , misfiring , can pretty much only run them on high octane fuel or the won't like it , front window buttons seem to break after a few years , Maf sensors

Every 5k for peace of mind really.

The Door Window switch issue could actually be more like a wiring issue as I found out at the weekend..but still

All cars have issues to be fair...even Other models in the brand!

I personally blame technology in cars nowadays.

Sometimes there is too much of it for there own good

I agree with that. A lot of it's down to luck of the draw too I think. Years ago I bought a Passat and was worst car I've ever owned, sold it 1yr later after it cost me about 4k in repairs on several different thing's, yet I read so much good about them.

Before that I had an 96 Mitsubishi FTO and that's the best I've had, so reliable. Driving a 07 Saab 9-3 now and its been brilliant to me but nearly at 160k miles now.

If I had 8k to spend I would be buying a fiesta ST for reliability I would only buy a vrs (I own one) if you want loads of fun but isn't suprised if you have to fill it with oil or the engine fails

Sadly I can only drive Autos, hence another big reason the Fabia appeals to me. Is the engine that volatile?

As I was Saying originally the newer version CTHE Is better and less fail, the CAVE are hit and miss usually the ones that are still running use oil just not as much as the others and are only still alive as such because they have been well looked after I.E. Fitting uprated spark plugs (denso) changing the plug gap to 0.6mm and changing them every 5-10km the oil blackens the plugs making missfires more prevalent

Well that's good news cos after everyone's help in here re: CAVE engines and how vastly over priced the one was I was looking at, I'm now going to look at a 2014 Fabia this weekend. 1k over budget but the p/x for mine and hopefully some haggling should soften the blow if I choose to go ahead.
