Rear Wiper Motor, Intermittent stopping, but "not broken"

Featured Replies

I have already taken my Yeti into the dealer because the rear wiper does not run.

It stops/starts in various attitudes then runs nicely for a mile or two and starts again.

Dealer says it runs fine in the workshop, so it is not a warranty job! Who do I appeal to

to get this wiper motor replaced, V A G?

It is a known "problem" so your dealer is being lazy. Phone Skoda UK and get them involved.

Wasn't the dealer in Bristol was it? Read their reviews on here!

No this dealer is in Bath and usually very helpful

More likely a broken wire where it goes from car to hatch than the motor itself?

There have been several reports here about rear wiper motors behaving like this, and I think all of them had the motors replaced under warranty, as it is a known "fault" with some motors.

  • My L&K does it as well. Dealer said no problem at service.
  • It's going soon so can't really be bothered taking it back just for this.

I replaced lots of rear wiper motors for this issue on various models during my time at skoda.

Make sure it's not the same problem we had when we picked our brand new Yeti up in March. The dealer suggested, as did some here, that we might have had a defective motor.

The problem turned out, partially,  to be a big box we had put in the boot which was preventing the tailgate latch and striker plate from closing properly. Apparently the sensor position has to be exact, otherwise the rear wiper won't operate. The tailgate wasn't showing as open on the maxidot which led me to the striker plate.

Maybe yours is touching intermittently causing the issue. We moved the striker plate a bit, (2 spline bolts) and that was the end of the problem.

Try pushing and pulling on the tailgate while the rear wiper is/should be running which should show if this is the issue.

Hope it helps anyway.

My father's Yeti did this and he had the motor replaced under warranty. It's a known fault as previously stated.

Had mine replaced at first service as a warranty repair, known batch of faulty motors, however dealer wont replace until you raise it with them, they managed to replicate the fault on mine and replaced no problem. Suggest you go back to your dealer.

Had same problem with back wiper. First time Skoda dealer said could find nothing wrong wiper worked fine. It continued to stop sometimes and they replaced under warranty, no problem.
